Zacharias was an ambitious, calculating man. There was no way he’d give up his current success for this. He would never risk it.
To him, Anneliese was nothing compared to his company’s reputation.
“Are you really going to call the press if he doesn’t show up?”
Anneliese nodded firmly. “Yes.”
She’d planned every single step she took carefully. She’d mapped all the possibilities just to make sure the divorce went through today.
She was ready to do whatever it took just to end it all in one fell swoop.
She wasn’t willing to drag this out.
She’d done her research, so she knew that the divorce would drag on if they didn’t get divorced today. If she filed a lawsuit, the whole process would drag on for at least three months.
She didn’t have time, nor did she want to waste time on this when she was bursting at the seams just to get to Westrough to see her friends.
She used to be Clauderias Tech’s PR director, so she had plenty of contacts to get the job done. Reporters and influencers were a dime a dozen in her contact list.
All she had to do was hit a few buttons, and they would be here before she could say ABC.
Still, she would rather not pull that calling card. It was already a dumpster fire; getting the media involved would be adding oil to that fire.
Fortunately, Anneliese knew Zacharias like the back of her hand because he finally showed up
at 9:05 a.m.
He looked rough, and his suit was rumpled. When she got a better look, she realized he was wearing the suit he had worn yesterday.
She had no idea where he had spent the night. His clothes were wrinkled, his hair was a mess, and his eyes were bloodshot. There was a five o’clock shadow on his jaw, and he was as pale as a ghost.
Still, she had to admit that he really was a looker. He might be disheveled, but it only added to his looks. She would even say it made him look wild yet heartbreaking. It was an odd contrast,

but he made it work.
“Anne–” He stood in front of Anneliese, voice trembling.

She cut him off, utterly uninterested in whatever he had to say, “You’re here, so let’s go in.”
Then, she spun on her heel and sauntered inside the City Hall. Jessica rolled her eyes at Zacharias and swiftly followed suit.
They were quietly lining up at the divorce counter when Zacharias suddenly grabbed Anneliese’s arm.
Then, he fished a ring out of his pocket.
“Anne, look. This is the ring I used when I proposed to you. Do you remember how happy you were when you put it on? The ring is still here.
“Things don’t have to change. Can’t you reconsider? I love you. I really don’t want this divorce.”
Anneliese looked at the “ring” in his hand. Honestly, it was more like a keychain.
Back then, Zacharias had accompanied her abroad to cheer her up. They’d been backpacking and were pretty much penniless.
That was when they picked it up near a church.
Zacharias said it looked like a ring and asked her whether she would marry him once she turned 20.
When she said yes, he slipped it onto her finger.
She used to treasure that thing like crazy. She even went as far as to keep it locked up in her safe.
However, that was all in the past. When she packed her stuff, she opened the safe and only took her own jewelry. As for that “ring“? Well, she naturally left it behind.
As she laid her eyes on that thing once more, she couldn’t help but cringe at how stupid she had been. If she didn’t know any better, she would even say she was under some sort of love
curse.
Right then, a lady nearby overheard Zacharias‘ heartfelt speech and fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
She even approached them and tried to talk her out of it. “Miss, your husband’s handsome and

devoted. You really should think twice before getting a divorce.”

Anneliese couldn’t help but stare at the woman’s audacity. Then, she took the keychain from Zacharias‘ hand.
His eyes lit up as his lips curved into a hopeful smile.
He just knew Anneliese wouldn’t be cold to his plight.
Alas, his hopes were dashed as he watched her slip the keychain right onto the lady’s hand the very next second.
“Since you’re interested, you can marry him after we get our divorce. He just happens to need a mom for his b*stard, too.”
The lady stared at Zacharias in disbelief. She hadn’t gotten a good look at the ring earlier, but now she could tell it was just a rusty iron keychain.
