Jessica shot Anneliese a look of utter disappointment.

“A big shot like Jonathan hands you a golden opportunity, and yet you turned him down? How did I end up with such a clueless best friend like you? You’re totally going to regret this!”

She pulled away from the curb, clearly disappointed. She used to think Anneliese’s hopelessly romantic side was a problem, but now that she’d finally gotten over it, something still felt off.

“I won’t regret it. Oh, and I’m not going to the dinner tonight. I booked a flight to Baytree for

next week.

“I promised Professor Baltimore I’d help in his lab for a few days, but I got busy with the divorce and didn’t go. Can you drop me off at Astoria University?

Anneliese adapted in no time. She didn’t need any help; she was right at home.

All morning, she focused on her assigned tasks and did them exceptionally well.

By lunchtime, she had neatly recorded all the voltage, current, temperature, and energy consumption data. Not only that, but she had also even drawn up clear energy–consumption graphs.

At first, the other lab members had been a bit put off by her sudden arrival. However, when they saw what she could do, they welcomed her sincerely.
