Anneliese was about to hang up when a hand suddenly shot out from beside her and snatched the phone without warning.

“Heh, I want to see just who your husband is.”

It was Zacharias.

He had jumped out of nowhere, and Anneliese panicked.

She had just forgotten to mention to Jonathan that Zacharias was around–she had completely erased this scoundrel from her mind—and worried Jonathan might misunderstand, she snapped, “Give it back!”

“Heh, so angry. Is your husband someone who has to hide in the shadows, afraid of the light? Or does he not even exist?”

Zacharias taunted her. He was just about to have a proper little chat with this mysterious man when he glanced at the phone–and grinned.

“Anne, your acting is actually impressive.”

He handed the phone back to Anneliese with a smile.

Anneliese froze for a moment before taking it. Jonathan must have hung up while Zacharias had the phone because the screen had already returned to the home page.

She exhaled in relief. “You can leave now.”

Zacharias, convinced Anneliese had been putting on a show to trick him, wasn’t in a hurry

anymore.

He didn’t want to wait there during Nishay’s surgery either, and with a teasing, indulgent smile, he said, “I’ll drop by later, Anne. Don’t try to fool me again. Playing hard to get too much can backfire–what if I actually take it seriously and, in a fit of anger, drag someone off to get married? How would you like that?”

Anneliese could only sit there speechless.

Zacharias turned and left, leaving Jessica utterly stunned.

No matter how many times she said she was already married, Zacharias wouldn’t believe it, and there was nothing she could do about that.

Anyway, once Jonathan returned to the country, everything would be clear.

“He’s ridiculous! You dodged a bullet–his rotten DNA would’ve dragged down your kids, your grandkids, and beyond.”

Anneliese nodded, then asked about Mikita.

Jessica pulled out two sealed bags. “This is hair from Mikita’s son, Aiden, and this is Mikita’s own. I’ve tracked everything. Mikita meets Timothy every Wednesday at a place called Moonlit Pavilion. Timothy always sneaks in through the back door, and they spend at least half a day together.

“Moonlit Pavilion is actually owned by Mikita’s brother. And here’s the twist–he’s the deputy director of White Inc.’s project division. Those three major projects that collapsed? Every single one ties back to him.

“If it weren’t for him, White Inc.’s finances might never have unraveled. And your pathetic dad? He’s on the brink of bankruptcy, yet he’s still sneaking around with Mikita like some lovesick fool.”

Anneliese’s eyes went wide.

She had suspected Mikita was shady, but she hadn’t realized the scale of the problem.
