Zacharias heard every word. They exploded in his head like bombs, then pierced his chest like shards of ice.

The flush of alcohol drained from his face, leaving him deathly pale, frozen where he stood.

He murmured in disbelief, “Impossible… That can’t be true. How could you really be married? How could Jonathan have married you?”

Seeing him so dazed, still refusing to accept the truth, Anneliese gave a bitter smile.

She knew him too well. She knew exactly why he clung to denial.

First, because she had once given in to him too often, and he still believed she would eventually come back.

Second, because deep down, he had always looked down on her–thinking that a divorced woman with a tarnished reputation and no powerful family could never be truly cherished by a man like Jonathan.

Zacharias gave a shaky laugh, his voice breaking. “Anne, stop teasing me like this. Please, don’t lie. I know I was wrong! I love you, I really do—”

Suddenly, he lunged toward her, eyes burning with stubborn obsession.

Anneliese found him utterly unreasonable.

Her voice rang with disgust. “Stop insulting the word love! Do you even know what love is, Zacharias?

“When you love someone, that person shines in your eyes. Even her flaws become endearing, something you treasure and embrace,

“But you? All you ever gave me was control, belittlement, lies, and indifference. Admit it, Zacharias–you’re no different from that abusive father of yours. At your core, you’re selfish and cold. You don’t even have the capacity to love anyone.”

Her words struck him like a blade to the heart. He staggered, his body swaying, his face ashen.

He looked like a man on the edge of collapse.

Anneliese lifted her head, worry flickering in her eyes. It wasn’t Jonathan she doubted–it was Zacharias. He was clearly drunk and barely coherent. If he lashed out, Jonathan was already exhausted; what if he got hurt?

“Go on.”

Jonathan’s lips curved faintly as he gave her a reassuring nod. With her here, he couldn’t fight freely–who knew what else Zacharias might do if he lost control again?

Anneliese hesitated for only a moment. “Be careful.”

With that, she led Meatloaf away. Zacharias instinctively reached to grab her, but Jonathan stepped sideways, blocking his path. His hand shot out, seizing Zacharias‘ wrist before he could touch her.

The hatred of a man robbed of his wife erupted instantly.

Zacharias ground his teeth in fury, his other hand curling into a fist that he swung at Jonathan’s face.

Jonathan tilted his head, dodging with ease. In the same motion, he twisted Zacharias‘ arm behind his back and drove his elbow hard into the man’s spine. Zacharias staggered and crashed out through the front door.

Jonathan followed him out, shutting the door behind with a sharp pull.

Zacharias regained his footing and turned, eyes bloodshot. “You seduced her! The great heir of the Fullbuster family, lowering yourself to be a homewrecker, stealing another man’s wife? I’ll kill you!”

He lunged at Jonathan again, seething with hatred,

Jonathan flexed his wrists, crossing his hands once as if warming up. His expression turned ice–cold. “You’re asking for it.”

The handsome features hardened, his entire presence sharp and predatory. He moved like a panther, swift and merciless.

Heavy thuds echoed down the hallway–flesh meeting fist, blow after blow. Zacharias had never been Jonathan’s equal, and drunk as he was, he stood no chance.
