He let out a brief, bitter laugh. “You won’t even let me tell anyone we’re married. Maybe his apology actually affected you, and you’re considering going back.”

She just stared at him. Seriously? He’s still on this?

“You’re insane,” she snapped. “He won’t sway me. What he said was just the basics–every adult should acknowledge their mistakes. That’s not something to be impressed by.

“If anyone motivated me, it was you. You’ve been there for everything–calming me, helping me figure things out, and making sure the fire department spoke up before it was too late. That’s what actually made the difference. I–”

“Then prove it,” he interrupted.

“What?” Anneliese blinked.
