Jonathan’s lips brushed her hair, his voice low and playful. “Silly girl. My heart isn’t on that side. You pressed wrong. Now you’ll end up blaming me and crying.”
Anneliese froze in place. She realized her ear had been pressed against the wrong spot.
fler cars burned hot. She listened closer, catching the steady beat inside his chest. She let out a faint huff.
“It doesn’t even sound fast. Say it again.” She poked his chest with her finger, testing him like she dared him to prove it. “Tell me how much you like me.”
Jonathan’s stomach tightened at her touch. He caught her hand and held it firm. His voice turned deep and hoarse.
“More than you like me. Just a little more.”
He believed it. He did love her.
But he feared saying too much. He feared she would demand more or run from it.
He had chosen patience, and it had worked. She thought she held the lead, yet she had confessed first.
His eyes glimmered with dark amusement. He bent low and kissed the top of her head.
Anneliese lifted her face, her eyes sharp with fire. “How can you say you love me more? I was the one who spoke first. You didn’t even answer me!”
The thought of his silence stung her. Her eyes swam with hurt and doubt.
Jonathan kissed her wet lashes, his voice soft as he coaxed her. “Baby, maybe you said it too suddenly. Maybe I was too happy, and I froze.”
“Huh?” She blinked, stunned.
Then, she remembered. When he said he loved her, she had frozen too.
She huffed and let it go, though her gaze still accused him.
“Then, will you love me more later?”
Jonathan gave no words. He lowered his head and caught her lips. This kiss was gentle. It carried tenderness, devotion, and promises unspoken.
Anneliese’s lashes fluttered. She closed her eyes and tilted up, her arms curling around his neck to answer him.
Their embrace deepened. Her body melted closer into his warmth.
Then, a chill brushed her skin. A cool touch kissed her forehead, her nose, her cheeks.
She opened her eyes. Snow drifted down, soft and white, floating all around them.

Anneliese’s whole face lit bright. She bounced in his arms, her voice ringing with joy. “Jonathan, look! It’s snowing! The first snow of the year in Oceaton!”
She stretched her hand, catching the flurry as it thickened, her voice filled with delight.
Winter had held back for so long. The year was nearly over, and she thought snow would never come. Yet it had arrived, sudden and quiet, like a gift.
It felt like their love. She thought her heart was locked forever by past hurt. She thought she would never open it again.
But then she had met Jonathan.
She laughed, holding snowflakes in her palm. She lifted her face toward him. “People always say couples who see the first snow together stay together forever. Do you believe that?”
Jonathan stared at her glowing eyes and lifted brows. His smile reached deep into him.–.
“I only believe in myself.”
He would never let her go.
No one and nothing could take her away, which meant they would always be together.
Anneliese only rolled her eyes at his answer. She let out a hum. “You really have no sense of romance at all, Mr. Fullbuster.”
She tipped her head back to the sky. Snow covered her hair like a soft crown.
“Are you cold?” Jonathan murmured as he wrapped her from behind. His hands covered hers.
Her fingers were icy, fragile, like smooth glass in his palms. He rubbed them slow, warming her with his touch.
“I’m cold, but I want to stay.”
She loved his arms around her. The moment was too good to end.
She didn’t want to move. She didn’t need words. Standing with him, watching snow fall, was enough.
