And so, when Jonathan returned home, his beloved wife wasn’t in their bedroom, which felt unusually empty right then.
On the low cabinet beside the couch sat the bouquet of Rhodes red roses he had given her earlier.
Anneliese had cherished the flowers deeply. She had even looked up online how to keep them fresh for longer, adding preservative drops from time to time. Thanks to her careful attention, the roses hadn’t wilted–in fact, they had blossomed even more beautifully.
But when Jonathan walked over now, he noticed the edges of the petals had started to curl and dry.
She probably hasn’t changed the water today. That woman isn’t still upset about me laughing earlier at lunch, is she? Unbelievable–she really holds a grudge.
Jonathan took the vase, replaced the water, added a few drops of preservative, and carefully arranged the flowers again before heading off to find her.
Finally, he located her in the study.
Anneliese was sitting cross–legged on the couch, fully absorbed in her laptop, typing rapidly across the keyboard. She didn’t even notice when he entered.
Jonathan walked closer and saw a swarm of glowing dots flashing across the screen–she was clearly running a flight simulation. Seeing she hadn’t noticed him, he didn’t disturb her. Instead, he went to the desk, opened his own computer, and began handling his work.
It wasn’t until the shrill sound of a phone ringing filled the quiet room that Anneliese blinked out of her focus. Her eyes felt dry, and when she lifted her gaze, she realized it was already late at night. Outside, the city skyline glittered with neon lights reflecting off the river.
jonathan stood up behind the desk, phone in hand.
‘Did I distract you?”
“When did you get back?”
They spoke almost in unison, and Anneliese quickly waved a hand. “Go on, answer your call.”
Jonathan stepped over to her and answered, his voice calm and low. “Got it. It’s too late–just arrange a hotel
He hung up and came to sit beside her, gently taking the laptop from her lap and setting it aside. Then, without warning, he pulled her onto his legs.
“Sylvia Pollard’s arrived. I asked Zion to send her to the hotel‘
Anneliese nodded, about to reply when a sharp tingling surged through her legs. “Ah! My legs–they’re
numb!”
Jonathan chuckled at her pained little whine. As her face scrunched up, he reached over and lifted her nightdress without hesitation. The house was warm with the heater running, and under her cashmere

dress, she wore nothing else, revealing two slender legs, fair and smooth like porcelain.

Jonathan’s hands began kneading her thighs in slow, firm circles. Already numb, her legs prickled like a stirred–up anthill at his touch. “Ow–don’t squeeze!”
Her protest was sweet and breathy, but Jonathan didn’t stop. His hands slid down to her calves, then lifted her foot to stretch the back of her leg. She gasped aloud, but the blood flow quickly returned, easing the discomfort. He repeated the same on the other leg while she bit her lip and stayed obediently still.
“Better now?” he asked, glancing down at the woman in his arms–only to meet her bright, teasing eyes.
Looping her arms around his neck, Anneliese grinned. “Not bad, Johnny. You’ve got some skill.”
Jonathan quirked a brow. “If my service pleased you, will there be a reward, Milady?”
Startled by his mock–serious tone, she blinked, then smirked. “Fine, I’ll reward you with gold-”
Before she could finish, he curved his lips in amusement. “Forget the gold. How about a kiss instead, Milady?”
As he spoke, his hand slipped higher, lifting her skirt again and venturing deeper.
