SERAPHINA
Chapter 175 Ten Geconds
What did the bond just say?
Ryker held my gaze for a moment longer before he reluctantly ran past me. My legs also ran, but my mind was completely blank. I was already deeply unsettled when the bond revealed that I had turned out to be Finn’s first love, and Asher’s crush still weighed on me, but my bond with Ryker just shook me to the core. Even Phina was silent, too stunned to speak. Because….
….I had written my name as my Alpha. Phina growled violently inside me. No one…no one means no one could be my Alpha!
That’s when two Alphas recognizing each other came into my view.
“You are my Omega.”
The wolf being called Omega was absolutely pissed off because the bond said that the wolf who called him Omega was his Alpha. But they had to say it because of the trial. Watching it, I remembered that we were actually in the trial and we were forming a pack bond. It was not real.
Yes, it was all being twisted intentionally. Nothing was true.
With that thought, I forced myself to calm my nerves. I shut down the thought of Ryker and his whisper. But still, a terrifying chill ran down my spine because when the bond called me his Luna, why wasn’t he freaked out? The bond calling a man his Luna should alone be enough to shatter him. So why did he not?
Even worse, why did his words still echo inside me, crawling over my skin like a second curse: ‘You are my Luna‘
That’s when a familiar face running towards me at full speed. Cassius.
I didn’t even realize that I was back in the forest among the trees and mist until I saw him. I had completely forgotten that I had to complete this trial with Cassius too.
His expression hardened at the sight of me, while Phina growled the closer he came. Even though I hated to even look at his face, I had to hold his hand and get over this bond as quickly as possible. I increased my speed and reached for him only when he stretched out. As soon as our bloodline marks touched and our eyes locked, I caught Cassius staring at me far too intently.
It was the first time we were this close, and his eyes refused to blink. His stare was invasive, stripping me bare as if he were searching for something deep inside me, peeling me open without my consent.
I frowned as the bond between us rose. He spoke first.
“You are my hatred.”
Phina met his wolf’s eyes with cold indifference as I answered, “You are no one to me.”
With that, I ran past him without wasting a second, because I knew how correct the bond was.
Unknown to me, behind me, Cassius‘ lips curled into an enraged, dangerous smile, one that promised this wasn’t over.
The next Alpha I met only confirmed my calculations. I seemed to have met nearly all of them. Many would have failed the trial, and a few would already be dead at the hands of the curse. That’s what I believed, so I was done with most of them. Except one.
My heart raced with the thought of him. Ronan.
Where was he?
Chapter 175 Ten Seconds
I ran ahead, but suddenly I felt something strange. The sounds of the other Alphas from deeper in the forest stopped.
That same terrifying feeling from when I first arrived in this cursed forest curled in my chest, and suddenly I felt the curse breathing at my back. Its darkness pressed down on me, suffocating. Even Phina stilled inside me, sensing the same thing: something was terribly, terribly wrong.
The curse started breathing harder against the back of my neck, its presence like claws scraping down my spine. It was angry.
That was when I saw it.
A curse loomed behind an Alpha in the distance. My eyes widened. The Alpha hadn’t looked back–so why was the curse visible to me? Then, in the mist in the distance, I caught another Alpha. Another curse. And another.
One by one, every Alpha came into my view from different directions and every one of their curses was visible
now.
My stomach dropped. Slowly, my gaze slid to the ground at my feet. My blood turned to ice.
An enraged shadow stretched outward, massive and horrifying, its nails lengthening into hooked claws. Its body twisted grotesquely, larger and larger, not just a curse, my curse.
For the first time, it was visible.
Its head jerked like a broken wolf, its jaw cracked open too wide, black liquid dripping from its teeth as it smiled. My smile. My silence. My hatred made flesh.
My throat went dry, my heart thundered against my ribs. Because it wasn’t only mine, every curse behind every Alpha was shifting too. Claws sharpening, bodies expanding, weapons of shadow lifting high.
They weren’t just haunting us anymore.
They were going to kill us.
And they were only seconds away.
A sudden jolt split through my mind like lightning.
“Alphas!” Alpha Gideon’s voice boomed through the mind–link, raw and commanding. Every Alpha around me faltered, stunned.
“YOU HAVE ONLY TEN SECONDS!” His roar shook the marrow of my bones. “RUN!!!”
The very heavens answered. Something thundered down from the sky with a sound like the world tearing open. My gasp ripped free as in front of me a door materialized gleaming white feathers, radiant, divine. It looked less like an escape and more like the gate to heaven itself.
“RUN! RUN!! RUN!!!” Gideon barked again, his urgency sparking a storm of movement as every Alpha bolted for their door.
Behind me, my curse shrieked, its voice splitting the silence like knives. It was furious, angrier than it had ever been as though it knew it was about to lose its prey. That was when it struck me: maybe–maybe once we crossed the door, the curse couldn’t follow.
The thought was confirmed a heartbeat later. I caught sight of an Alpha sprinting past me, hurling himself through his white–feathered door. The moment his body vanished inside, his curse ignited in a blaze of black fire, wailing a death cry so chilling it rattled my soul.
Crossing the door killed the curse.
Chapter 175 Ten Seconds
My chest burned with wild hope as I hurled myself forward, every ounce of strength pouring into my legs. The white–feathered door loomed ahead, only a few steps away. My gaze flickered between it and the blur of Alphas rushing for their salvation.
I saw them all. Ryker. Finn. Asher.
But-
