"That's not possible. The doctors wouldn't just stand by. This is on you, Lemira. You owe Evander," Asher said, shifting all the blame onto Lemira.

Lemira stared coldly at Asher. "That's not what you said back then. You told me to go with the doctor's advice if you couldn't make it in time."

"Lemira, you must've misheard. I said to save his leg, not to just go ahead and amputate," Asher snapped, clearly irritated. "You were young and scared out of your mind. You must've remembered it wrong."

Lemira took a deep breath. She knew Asher would never admit the truth.

The Langstons' selfishness was something she'd seen all too clearly.

She turned to Evander, her voice icy. "I signed because the doctor recommended it. I don't see it as my fault. If you have a problem, take it up with the doctor."

"Lemira, do you really think I'm blaming you unfairly? Even Rowan said amputation wasn't the best option. You didn't push the doctors to try harder, just agreed to the amputation," Evander said, bitterness lacing his words.

Evelina chimed in, her voice sweet but cutting, "Lemira, I've kept quiet all these years, but I have to speak up now. You did suggest the amputation."

Lemira snapped, grabbing Evelina by the chin. "Are you spewing nonsense too?"

"Lemira, let go!" Evander shouted, grabbing his crutch and hitting Lemira's leg with it.
