When William saw the box in Liz’s arms, surprise flickered in his eyes.
“You quit?”
Liz nodded. “Something like that.”
“Do you have plans to look for a new job?”
“Not yet. I’m going to take some time off before deciding.”
Until things with Zac were completely resolved, any job she tried to take would almost certainly be sabotaged by him. Warren had also suggested grad school, and that was on her mind too.
Back in college, her grades in her core courses had been strong enough for guaranteed admission to a graduate program. But Zac had been launching his business at the time and needed financial support, so she had gone straight to work after graduation to help fund him.
Missing out on grad school had always been a regret. Now that the chance had come around again, she was seriously weighing whether to go back to school or continue working.
“I know a few managing partners at other firms,” William said. “If you want a job, I can make some introductions.”
Liz looked at him. “Thank you, Mr. Sanders.”
She had no intention of accepting his help. She didn’t want to cause him trouble, and knowing Zac’s temperament, he wouldn’t make it easy for her to find work.
William could tell she wasn’t planning to take him up on the offer, but he didn’t push. Instead, he took the box from her, set it in the back seat, and started the car.
About forty minutes later, he pulled up in front of her apartment building. Through the window, they both spotted Zac’s car parked a short distance away.
William’s gaze turned cold. “I’ll walk you up.”
“No need. I actually have something to say to him. Thank you for the ride.”
His grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, but he said nothing.
Unaware of his reaction, Liz got out, opened the back door, and lifted her box into her arms. She started toward the building, but Zac stepped in front of her before she could reach the entrance.
“You quit your job?” Seeing the box in Liz’s hands, his eyes darkened.
“All this over one post? Did it really need to escalate to resignation?” he wondered.
Liz looked up at him expressionlessly. “Isn’t this exactly what you wanted to see?”
Zac frowned. “Liz, what do you mean? Do you think I’m the one who posted that online?”
“Who else? Besides you, who has both the ability and motive to do something like this?”
Meeting Liz’s ice–cold stare, anger surged through Zac. Is this really what you think of me?”

He had been arous all afternoon, worried she would be upset about that post, and had even asked Chase to suppress the trending topic
Now it seemed like he had wasted his effort.
Looking at his angry expression, Liz’s emotions didn’t ever in the slightest.
“Aren’t you exactly that kind of person? Wasn’t it you who hired lawyers to steal my cases? Wasn’t it you who had people pressure the law firm
Zac’s face turned ashen, and he said nothing
His previous actions had only been to make her give in. But he couldn’t bring himself to say those words
