Chapter 15

Keira walked to the window and pushed it open with one swift motion. The weather outside was beautiful, and it instantly brightened up her mood.

She decided to head out for a walk. At the moment, she hadn’t gone to any interviews yet and still had

some free time to spare.

As she arrived downstairs by the bushes, she suddenly heard faint meowing sounds. She turned her head but saw no sign of a kitten. Thinking she might have misheard, she turned to leave.

But then, she heard the sound again.

She crouched and examined the bushes carefully. After some time, she spotted an orange kitten deep inside an old drainage pipe.

It was painfully thin with wounds all over its body. Yet, when it saw Keira approach, it didn’t seem scared at all. Instead, it began clumsily crawling toward her with all its strength.

Keira’s heart ached at the sight. She made up her mind to save it. But in front of the pipe were several large cement blocks, which she tried to move multiple times without success.

She thought about asking someone for help, but didn’t know anyone around here… Except for the man who had helped pay her bill before.

After hesitating for a while, she decided to take a chance. She went to where she thought he stayed and

knocked on his door.

The man appeared, and it was evident that he’d just woken up.

When he saw it was her, he quickly straightened his clothes and asked, “Do you need something?”

Keira quickly explained the situation with the kitten she had come across downstairs.

The man then replied, “Alright. Wait here a second.”

He went back inside his apartment to get changed. Then, the two of them headed down together.

After spotting where the kitten was, he carefully moved the cement blocks aside and gently lifted the kitten from the pipe.

The kitten meowed nonstop. It seemed to somehow understand that it was being rescued because it didn’t struggle. It simply curled up obediently in the man’s arms.

“It looks like its hind leg might be injured. We should take it to a vet,” said Keira worriedly.

“Okay. There’s a vet right around the corner,” the man replied.

After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at the veterinary clinic. A nurse came over to ask about the situation and informed them that they needed to run a check first.

Not long after, the nurse brought the kitten back out and said its leg injury wasn’t serious. There were some scrapes, and it would make a full recovery with some care. Nevertheless, it was severely malnourished and would need to stay for observation for a few days.

Looking at the kitten in her arms, Keira sighed in relief and expressed her sincere gratitude. “Thank you so much. If it weren’t for you, I really wouldn’t have known who to turn to. Oh! I haven’t even asked your name.”

“No problem. I’m glad we could save the little guy. My name’s Stellan Lundgren. And you are?”

“Keira York.”

Stellan repeated her name under his breath and gave a slight nod.

After getting the kitten settled in, the two of them walked back to the apartment building together. Perhaps because they now had something in common to care for, the conversation flowed easily between them.

Keira soon learned that Stellan was working as a legal consultant here. Coincidentally, she had always been interested in law since she was young. So, the two began chatting in depth about the profession.
