At midnight in the Jiangning City Base, Chu Zhimiao and Li Yang were still awake and sitting on the bed with a mini solar lamp illuminating the surroundings.
Holding onto a small knife, she sliced off a layer of rotten flesh from Li Yang’s arm. Afterward, she put on the medicine and wrapped it with a clean bandage.
When she was done, she cleaned the knife and burned the gloves. The moment she raised her head, she saw her childhood friend’s pale face.
She wiped the sweat on his forehead with a handkerchief and asked with a hint of worry, "Li Yang, how are you feeling? Are you okay?"
Li Yang took a deep breath as he endured the cold, piercing pain raging inside his body, and shook his head. After a moment of silence, he replied hoarsely, "I’m fine."
Looking at his worsened condition, Chu Zhimiao held his cold hand and said, "Li Yang, we don’t know how long you can suppress the virus. I heard that the Lin’an City Base has several healers. Let’s go there and seek treatment tomorrow."
"Isn’t Brother Pei planning to go there in two more days? Just wait for him," Li Yang said with a smile.
Reaching out, he caressed her cheek and added, "Don’t worry, I can still hold on. This matter can’t be known by others. Be good, okay?"
Chu Zhimiao lowered her head to hide her reddened eyes. After a while, she finally nodded and said, "You should go rest first. I will get something to eat for you."
Li Yang nodded and went to the bed with her help. When he lay down, he closed his eyes and clenched his jaws.
After the battle against the mutant wild boar, the zombie virus inside his body was getting out of control. Fortunately, he and Chu Zhimiao had enough crystal cores for him to absorb. Otherwise, he might have long turned into a zombie.
While he was lost in thought, he unknowingly fell asleep. When Chu Zhimiao returned with a porridge, she saw him sleeping with a deep frown.
Placing the bowl on the table, she sat at the edge of the bed and reached out to smooth out his frown. "Li Yang, you must hold on. If you dare to leave me behind, I will never forgive you," she whispered.
As the night deepened, she climbed into the bed and lay beside him. Despite the hot weather, his body was frighteningly cold. So, she covered him with a blanket and hugged him to sleep.
Early the next morning, the Phantom Team members woke up before dawn.
Besides Qin Luzi and Mo Junjie, who still had more important tasks to do, the rest of the members went out today. Since they had split into teams, they ate their breakfast and met at the mission hall.
When they entered the mission hall, everyone’s gazes landed on them. The members of other mercenary teams were curious about their strength, while the staff were delighted. As an S-rank team, the Phantom Team would be able to take higher-rank missions.
