Chapter 2
There were constant sounds of laughter and playfulness coming from outside the house.
Jenny would occasionally shout “mom”
Jaqueline answered softly.
I listened to the sounds outside and pondered about what to do next.
I don’t know how long it had been when the phone rang.
It was my mom.
She asked me if I had eaten the cake today.
Upon hearing these words, I suddenly realized that I hadn’t eaten anything until now.
Before hanging up the phone, my mom nervously asked me when I would come back.
I have been abroad for five years, and the number of times I have returned is few and far between.
At first, the job was not stable.
Eventually, Jaqueline said that coming and going was too troublesome.
I had just walked out of the room when Jenny suddenly threw a toy at me.
“Bad person! How did you get into my house?”
“Are you going to steal my mom again?”
I hadn’t spoken yet when Jaxson bowed to me and apologized.
“Sorry Jagger, Jenny is just a child, don’t argue with her.”
The neighbor Jaqueline said with a calm face, “This is not a big deal! No need to apologize.”
“Moreover, Jenny treated him like this because he had previously scared the Jenny.”
She then protected Jaxson and his daughter behind her.
“Jagger, you wouldn’t argue with a five–year–old girl, would you?”
“If that’s the case, I would feel embarrassed for you.”
I didn’t say a word, and all the blame fell on me.
“You guys carry on, I just came out to get something.”
Chapter 2
After I finished speaking, I opened the refrigerator door.
I discovered that the cake I had made earlier was missing.
I glanced at the living room.
I suddenly discovered a cake on the table that had been messed up.
Jaqueline noticed my gaze and casually said, “Is this cake yours? Jenny said it wasn’t tasty, so she left it
here.”
“You wanted to eat, so I bought one for you.”
I casually threw the cake that I had carefully prepared into the trash can and said softly, “No need.”
After saying that, I opened the door and went out.
No sooner had I taken a few steps than Jaqueline came running after me and grabbed hold of me.
“Jagger, where did you go?”
I looked at her with confusion.
This was the first time Jaqueline left Jaxson and followed me out.
“Why did you follow me out?”
Jaqueline was taken aback when she heard my question.
In the past, whenever I saw her chasing after me, I would be overjoyed.
No matter what she did before, I would forgive her.
Jaqueline couldn’t hide her expression, as if she hadn’t expected my reaction to be so indifferent.
“L.. I saw you leaving without saying hello, so I came out to ask.”
I shrugged indifferently.
“I went out to find something to eat.”
At that moment, Jaxson came over with Jenny.
“Jagger, Jenny just said she wants to go eat barbecue. If you don’t mind, let’s go together.”
“I apologize to you.”
