But in the next instant, she bit down hard on her lower lip, swallowing every word before it could escape.

With her gaze lowered, she watched his movements, disbelief flooding her eyes. Then, suddenly, his kiss tilted her head back without her even realizing it.

In the dim light, she looked more beautiful than ever, almost ethereal.

Rowan glanced up at her, and in that moment, all his self-control crumbled.

This… was so much harder than he’d imagined.

Seeing her wince with pain, Rowan hesitated for a split second. He was about to stop when he noticed a tear slipping from the corner of her eye. Something about that sight hit him hard, and his brow furrowed deeply.

Elissa sensed his hesitation, coupled with that strange, unfamiliar feeling, and froze.

She didn’t have any real experience with this sort of thing.

But as a doctor, she certainly wasn’t lacking in theory.

It didn’t take her long to figure out what was happening.

She steadied herself, tamped down her own surprise, and lifted her gaze to the man beside her. He looked as dark and stormy as midnight, but couldn’t quite meet her eyes. Elissa knew this was a matter of pride for any man, so she spoke gently, careful not to bruise his ego:

“Um, you know, most men start to have these issues after thirty. If you’re really worried, I could run a quick checkup for you. If there is a problem, it’s nothing a few days of medication wouldn’t fix…”

She’d seen plenty of cases like this before. At the clinic, men came in for fertility concerns all the time, some single, some married, some just anxious about their own health.

Whatever Rowan’s issue was, it couldn’t be serious.

At least, up until now, she’d never noticed any sign that he might have a problem.

Rowan’s face darkened even more at her words. He resisted the urge to silence her with a kiss and instead gave her a light pat on the rear. “Go take a shower, okay?”
