A Caged Songbird's Escape: Into the Arms of a Predator novel Chapter 360

Lorraine paused. Were they really keeping things that professional?

Rowan's expression was grim. "You want me to do it?"

"…"

Right. They'd had a fight. Lorraine wisely excused herself and called Elissa, asking her to come up to the executive suite. Just before hanging up, she added, "Be careful. Mr. Murphy is clearly in a bad mood."

"Got it." Elissa nodded and grabbed the feedback data before heading upstairs.

Standing outside the CEO's office, she took a silent, steadying breath and knocked.

"Come in."

The man's voice from inside was deep and cold.

Elissa lowered her gaze, pushed the door open, and walked to his desk. She placed the file beside him, her voice calm and cool. "This is the latest feedback from the clinical trial. The results are better than we projected. If we continue to monitor and there are no issues, we can begin preparing for the market launch."

She wore a pale silk blouse and a black skirt that fell to her mid-calf, her makeup minimal. Her entire demeanor was professional, matching her tone. Her small, delicate face was a mask of neutrality, and she hadn't once made eye contact with him. It was as if she had already drawn a clear line between them.

Rowan felt a surge of anger, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Are you this formal when you talk to Frank?"

"…"

Elissa's brow furrowed, and she instinctively looked up at him. The sight made her freeze.

He was a much better fighter than Frank; there was no way he should have been injured in that brawl last night. Yet there it was—a dark, angry bruise on his cheekbone. The mark stood out starkly against his otherwise flawless features.

Elissa had intended to remain detached, but she couldn't stop herself from asking, "Did Frank do that?"

"Yes, he hit me," Rowan answered instantly, as if he'd been waiting for her to ask. "He hit me, and you're still going to get back together with him?"
