A Secretive Deal with My Billionaire Boss novel Chapter 187

Chapter 187
Madison
I pulled my knee away from his touch, even as warmth spread through me from where his fingers had been. “You’re ‘ensuring a lot more than necessary.”
“Am I?” His eyes flicked to me briefly, lips curled into a smirk. “You seem flustered.”
“I’m not flustered,” I lied, crossing my arms. “I just don’t appreciate being treated like a possession.
“I never said you were a possession.”
“Your investment, then,” I corrected, rolling my eyes. “Same difference.”
“Not at all. An investment implies value.” His voice took on that dangerous tone. “And you, Madison Harper, are extremely valuable to me.”
I turned to look out the window, hoping he wouldn’t notice the blush creeping up my neck. The city buildings blurred past as we approached the office building, its glass exterior gleaming in the
afternoon sun.
“You’re doing it again,” I muttered.
“Doing what?”
“Saying things that sound romantic when we both know this is just business.”
Alexander laughed. “Is that what you think I’m doing? Being romantic?”
“You know exactly what you’re doing,” I shot back.
He pulled into the private parking garage beneath the building, sliding smoothly into his reserved space. As the engine died, he turned to face me fully.
“Maybe I just enjoy watching you blush,” he said, his eyes dropping briefly to my lips,
“I’m not blushing,” I insisted, even as heat flooded my cheeks.
“No?” He reached out, his thumb brushing my cheekbone. “Could have fooled me.
I swatted his hand away, grabbing my purse. “We should get back to work. I have actual job responsibilities to attend to.
“Running away from me, Madison?”
“No,” I said firmly, meeting his gaze. “I’m being professional. Someone has to.

“Professional?” He unbuckled his seatbelt with deliberate slowness. “Is that what we’re calling it?”
I reached for the door handle, but Alexander was faster. His hand closed over mine, stopping me from opening it.
“What’s the rush?” His voice dropped an octave. “We have a few minutes.”
“We just spent the morning shopping and the afternoon at the warehouse,” I reminded him. “I think we’ve had enough extracurricular activities for one day.”
He chuckled, his thumb tracing circles on the back of my hand. “Neither of those was extracurricular. Both were business.”
“And this?” I nodded toward our hands.
“This is pleasure.” His eyes darkened. “Unless you’d prefer we keep things strictly professional, Madison?”
The way he said my name made my stomach flip. “I didn’t say that.”
“Good.” His hand slid up my arm, leaving a trail of heat in its wake. “Because I’ve been thinking
about kissing you since you got sassy with me on the drive over.”
“Sassy?” I arched an eyebrow. “I was standing my ground.”
“Call it what you want.” Alexander leaned closer, his breath warm against my cheek. “I found it incredibly sexy.”
My heart raced as his lips hovered just inches from mine. “Mr. Knight…”
“Yes, Madison?” His voice was a low rumble.
“Someone might see us.’
He glanced around the empty parking garage. “The windows are tinted. No one can see in.”
“Still-”
He cut me off with a kiss that stole my breath. His lips moved against mine with practiced precision, demanding and giving all at once. I melted into him, my hand finding its way to his chest.
When he pulled back, his eyes were dark with desire. “Still worried about being seen?”
“Not at the moment,” I admitted, slightly breathless.
Alexander smirked. “I thought not.”
“Don’t look so smug.”

“Can’t help it.” His fingers traced my jawline. “You make it too easy.”
“I do not,” I protested.
“No?” His eyebrow quirked. “Then why are you leaning into my touch right now?”
I jerked back, realizing he was right. “That’s-that’s not fair.’
“I never claimed to play fair.” He reached for the door handle. “Come on. Let’s go upstairs before I
decide to continue this in the backseat.”
I quickly exited the car, needing some distance to clear my head.
The parking garage was eerily quiet, our footsteps echoing against concrete walls as we walked
toward the elevator.
Alexander stayed close behind me, his presence like a magnetic field I couldn’t escape.
“Running away, Ms. Harper?”
“Just trying to be professional,” I replied, pressing the elevator button with more force than
necessary.
Alexander chuckled. “Professional. Right.”
The elevator doors slid open with a soft ding, and I stepped inside, Alexander following closely. As soon as the doors closed, he pressed the button for the executive floor, then deliberately hit the ” door close” button again.
“What are you doing?” I asked, watching him.
Instead of answering, he moved toward me, backing me against the elevator wall. His hands planted on either side of my head, caging me in.
“Fifteen seconds,” he murmured, his breath warm against my cheek.
“Fifteen seconds for what?”
“To do this.”
His mouth claimed mine in a kiss that made my knees weak. I clutched at his shoulders, my body responding instantly to his touch. His hand slid down to my waist, pulling me flush against him as his tongue teased mine.
The elevator chimed as we passed the third floor, but Alexander didn’t pull away. Instead, his kiss deepened, becoming more demantling. His hand slid lower, gripping my hip with possessive fingers.
“Ten seconds left,” he whispered against my lips before capturing them again.

1 should have pushed him away. We were in the company elevator, for heaven’s sake. Anyone could be waiting when the doors opened. But my body betrayed me, melting into him as if we were made to fit together.
His teeth grazed my lower lip, making me gasp. “Five seconds,” he said, his voice husky.
The elevator slowed, approaching our floor. With reluctance, Alexander pulled back, straightening his tie as if nothing had happened. I quickly smoothed my hair, trying to compose myself before the doors opened.
“You look thoroughly kissed,” he observed with satisfaction.
“Shut up,” I muttered, feeling my cheeks heat.
The doors slid open, revealing an empty hallway.
“I have a meeting in twenty minutes,” he said as we entered his office. “Bring me a coffee, would you?”
Just like that, we were back to boss and assistant. The whiplash was dizzying.
“Of course, my lips.
Mr. Knight,” I replied, my voice remarkably steady considering I could still taste him on
I headed to the break room, preparing his coffee exactly how he liked it. When I returned to his office, he was seated behind his desk, reviewing documents with a furrowed brow.
“Your coffee,” I said, placing it on his desk.
He looked up, his eyes darkening as they swept over me. “Thank you, Madison.”
Our fingers brushed as he took the cup, the brief contact sending sparks up my arm.
“Will there be anything else?” I asked, trying to sound professional.
“Not at the moment.” His lips quirked. “Unless you’d like to continue where we left off in the
elevator.”
“I believe you have a meeting in fifteen minutes,” I reminded him, backing toward the door.
“Rain check, then,” he said with a wink.
My phone buzzed in my pocket just as I was about to sit down at my desk. I pulled it out, half- expecting another message from Jackson.
Instead, Hazel’s name flashed on the screen. I opened the message.
“Your boyfriend/boss is cheating on you.”
