Chapter 100
Those were the only two Annelise didn’t hit.
Hearing this, Burke’s back went rigid. How did she know he was doing it for them…
Annelise’s voice was casual. “You take jobs, I give jobs. Why not work for me? At least it’s legal.”
Burke had taken on so many jobs: infidelity investigations for wives, threatening mistresses, and even dealing with mothers-in-law.
Some were bad, like forcing an old person to give up their house for their daughter-in-law.
All sorts of things. But usually, just by standing there, they’d scare ordinary people. Even if they weren’t scared, no one would see them as good guys.
This was the first time they’d failed to intimidate someone and ended up being recruited as underlings instead.
Burke said in a low voice, “We don’t do anything too out of line.”
“I’m a doctor. I treat people. What’s so out of line about that?”
Annelise’s lips curved into a half-smile.
Burke still didn’t believe she was a doctor and was about to speak.
Annelise cut him off coolly, “The one with the limp. Injured in a car crash. It hurts when it’s cloudy or raining. The injury is recent.”
Now, not just Burke, but even the young thugs stared wide-eyed. “How did you
know?!”
“Is it that hard?”
Annelise’s eyes were as dark as ink. “All doctors know bone-setting diagnosis, just to different degrees.”
Burke got excited, his voice trembling. “Then, heroine, can you… can you fix his leg? We’ll pay whatever it costs!”
“Uncle, no, I…” The limping boy walked over. Under the streetlight, you could see he wasn’t old at all, 15 at most. His looks were completely different from the thugs-delicate and fair-skinned, with short white hair that seemed natu- ral and was quite eye-catching, pressed down by a baseball cap.
Burke snapped at him, “Shut up!”
The limping boy looked down. “We’re out of money, and it doesn’t even hurt that much.”
Burke forced a smile. “Heroine, don’t mind him. Just tell us the treatment, and I’ll arrange it.”
Annelise glanced over, her tone light. “He calls you Uncle. Are you related?”

Chapter 100
Burke scratched the back of his head. “Yeah
Annelise stepped closer, her gaze lowering. “The relative you picked up from a trash heap six months ago?”
The limping boy’s eyes showed alarm. “Uncle, let’s go. I don’t need treatment.”
288 Vouchers
Burke grabbed him and said to Annelise with an apologetic smile, “Heroine, the kid doesn’t know any better. Please don’t mind him.”
Annelise smiled faintly. “I have one at home too, picked up from a trash heap.”
The limping boy suddenly looked up, his face a picture of unspoken words.
Annelise said unhurriedly, “Fixing his leg isn’t hard. From now on, work for me. I’ll pay you a regular salary. I don’t care where you go or what you do in your own time, as long as you don’t harm anyone, you can do whatever you want.”
“There’s a salary?!”
The young thug’s eyes lit up.
