Chapter 102
Clearly, Annelise didn’t want to discuss the issue further. She walked forward in her black boots, her long hair falling to her waist, her legs long, slender, and strikingly pale.
But Adrian still noticed something was wrong with her right hand. He suddenly lifted her wrist, his dark eyes narrow- ing. “How did this happen?”
Annelise wasn’t concerned. “I must have scraped it on a tree just now, trying not to hit the wrong person. It’s fine, once I get back…”
Annelise stopped short.
It was because of the man’s sudden move. He abruptly leaned down, his thin lips pressing against her wrist. He exud- ed an air of nobility, and though the action was dangerous, his touch was incredibly gentle.
It couldn’t even be called a kiss on her hand, but the coolness of his lips was just enough to soothe the burning sensa- tion from the wound.
Annelise had never been this close to anyone before and tried to pull her wrist away.
But he held her tight, lifting his deep-set eyes to look at her face.
The man was tall with long legs, dressed in a black bespoke suit. On his fair, elegant wrist, he still wore that string of crimson prayer beads, looking impossibly ascetic.
Because they were backlit, no one could see this scene.

Adrian saw her push him away and smiled faintly. “I heard this is the best way to inhibit bacteria.
Annelise looked at him and muttered, “It’s only because it’s you. If it were anyone else, I would’ve slapped their face off.”
Adrian had also noticed the extent to which she was a sucker for a pretty face. His faint smile was laced with indul- gence. “This alley has no cameras. I’ll leave Blaine with you. He’s somewhat useful.”

Annelise’s gaze swept over the nearby shadows, her lips curling up. “That’s your bodyguard. If you give him to me, what will you use?”
Adrian looked into her eyes. “You don’t want him?”
Annelise didn’t deny it. “I’m used to being alone. I like the freedom of coming and going as I please. I don’t like being followed.”
Of course, Adrian didn’t entirely believe her. If she truly came and went alone, she wouldn’t have Lenny.
She was probably just wary of him.
Adrian had never encountered a situation like this and felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest. But his face showed no sign of it. He just lowered his gaze, his eyes growing deeper. “I thought the little Miracle Doctor considered me a friend.”
“We are friends.”
Annelise couldn’t bear to see a handsome man look dejected. She was a sucker for good looks. “If you give me gifts or something, I can accept them. But a person, forget it.”
