Chapter 126
Stephan saw how stubborn she was and got annoyed. “Mom!
You killed a patient once. That whole thing finally died down after twenty years of silence. Do you have to draw at- tention to yourself again and drag the Whitman family down with you?!”
“You…” The old woman raised her cane as if to strike him.
Stephan handed her a card. “Mom, you’re not young anymore. Don’t be so difficult.
I know you don’t like it when Gloria talks, but she’s my wife. You have to try and understand your son.”
The old woman gritted her teeth, her fist clenched so tight it ached. “I’d rather not have you as a son.”
“Mom, don’t say things you don’t mean just because you’re angry.”
Stephan supported her. “Did the Winthrop family return our Etherhart Herb?
Mom, listen to me. My company is really struggling right now. Can you give it to me?”
The old woman’s chest was heaving. “I was wondering why you came. It was for the Etherhart Herb.”
“Mom, you don’t want to see the Whitman family go bankrupt, right? That was Dad’s life’s work.”
Stephan hung his head and sighed. “I’m really out of options. I can’t just hand the company over to the bank.”
The old woman looked at the son she once doted on; and her heart ached.
She didn’t want to see the business her husband left behind be destroyed.
He knew that hearing this would make her give in.
So for all these years, every time he said it, she took a step back.
Until she had retreated to this dark and gloomy traditional courtyard residence, and as a mother, she had no more use to him. Only then did he leave her alone.
He didn’t even show up anymore, let alone fulfill his filial duties.
They say you raise children to support you in your old age. What kind of support was this?
“Then let it go bankrupt.”
The old woman’s voice was calm. “You’re its owner now.”
Stephan froze, his eyes widening in disbelief. “Mom, what did you say?”

The old woman looked at him. “Son, this is the last time I’ll call you that. I carried you for ten months, and your father and I raised you, not so you could be a heartless monster. From this day on, I am officially disowning you. I don’t care what happens to you after this.”
After a moment of shock, Stephan burst out laughing. “You old hag, you’re really crazy!
I came to give you money, and you want to disown me?
Gloria was right, you’re impossible!”
With that, he didn’t even take the gift box, just turned and stormed off.
On the road, he ran into Annelise and Lenny on their bikes.
Normally, Stephan would have made a few cold remarks, but today he wasn’t in the mood.
Lenny, however, narrowed his eyes and made a gesture with his hand.
Annelise’s eyes were calm. “If you beat him to death, Grandma will be the one who’s sad.”
Lenny’s little face puffed up, and he turned his head away to sulk.
The two of them carried the groceries into the clinic, where a few gift bags were still on the floor.
