“That’s right. Sweetie, let’s just call 911 first. Looks like the boy wandered off. I’ve shouted for a while, but nobody’s coming for him,” an order man advised, worried that she would be held responsible if something went wrong.

Annelise quickly unbuttoned the little boy’s suit and moved him into the shade. “Don’t worry I have a medical license.”

With that, she unzipped her backpack and fetched a foldable medicine kit. When opened. rows of scalpels and special tools of all sizes were arranged side by side.

Annelise checked the little boy’s pulse once again.

“Stop!” the man in a white coat bellowed. “How could you perform a surgery on the street?” Annelise ignored him. She cast her eyes down, monitoring the boy’s pulse and heart rate.

The man in a white coat sneered. “I’m Benjamin Howard from Brookford University of Medicine, a student of Madam Kendrick. You claimed to have a medical license. How old even are you?”

Annelise focused solely on the boy as she sterilized her tools.

“Hey, I’m talking to you!” Benjamin was snubbed for the first time. “Even grandpa knows to wait for the ambulance, but you don’t?”

With one knee on the ground, Annelise radiated a cold, commanding aura. “Are you kidding me? Wait for the ambulance while wasting the precious time? Is that what your teacher taught you?”

“Who says just wait?” Benjamin shot back. “It is you who is wasting time. Stop flaunting your tools, and keep the so–called traditional medicine to yourself. Let me perform CPR on him.”

Annelise shot him an icy stare.

It was a shame that such a pretty girl could be so stubborn and hot–headed.

“He’s having heatstroke. You’re not supposed to do CPR,” Pressing the boy’s finger, Annelise blurted out. “Quack!”

Benjamin fumed, “I beg your pardon? Do you know who my mentor is?”

He had just won an award with Rosalie. How dare this little girl question his medical skills?

“Not interested.” Annelise held the boy’s finger while sterilizing the tools in one smooth motion. “Step aside.”

Benjamin barked, his eyes ablaze with fury, “I won’t waste my time with a charlatan. His lips have turned purple, which goes to show his heart is failing.”

“Myocardial hypoxia and ischemia can cause respiratory distress, which makes the lips turn purple.” Annelise met his eyes and said coldly, “But heatstroke can cause the same symptoms. The key difference is that his pulse is steady, and his lips are dry and chapped from prolonged heat exposure. How can you call yourself a student of Brookford University of Medicine without recognizing these signs?”

“True. I’ve learned that we need to check the medical signs first,” someone chimed in.

Someone curled his lip. “Being a student of Brookford University of Medicine isn’t anything to write home about.”

“Honestly, that girl is more trustworthy. She handled the initial examination like a pro.”

Benjamin snapped, “Fine. Even if he’s having a heat stroke, do you think your little trick can fix him? Then what use are we med students?”
