Chapter 333
Jeffrey’s eyes darkened.
He thought, “This bodyguard Mark is starting to meddle too much‘
‘It’s one thing to say that in front of Rebecca, but to act like that in front of Samuel too?‘

“Are you trying to help me look for my dad?” Samuel caught on to Jeffrey’s mood and couldn’t resist poking fun at him, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“I’ve only ever seen people getting rid of their romantic rivals, not going out of their way to make things harder for themselves,” Jeffrey retorted, his voice steady. “Finding your dad is on you, Samuel. As Mr. Hanson, this is one battle I can’t fight for you.” Jeffrey kept his cool, but he was definitely playing his cards close to his chest.
Samuel looked at him with wide eyes. “Then I’m not sleeping next to you anymore.”
Jeffrey raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”
Samuel said, “I’ll sleep on my own.”
Jeffrey didn’t hesitate. He threw back the covers and said, “Alright.”
Samuel was left blinking, a little confused.
Samuel was left blinking, a little confused.
‘When did Dad start giving in so easily?‘ Samuel wondered.
“When your mom asks, just make sure you tell her it was you who said I could go stay in her room,” Jeffrey said, sitting up with a relaxed, cool tone. “Wasn’t my idea.”
Samuel blinked, baffled. “Wait, when did I ever say you could go to Mom’s room?”
“Your mom didn’t give me a room, so I could only crash with you,” Jeffrey went on, acting all pitiful but totally unapologetic. “If you kick me out, I guess I’ll just have to go beg her to take me in instead.”
Samuel’s worry vanished in an instant.
‘And here I was, actually worried I’d hurt the old guy’s feelings—and I was even about to give him a little comfort so he wouldn’t feel so down,‘ Samuel thought to himself.
‘But in the end…‘ Samuel just felt speechless.
“Goodnight,” Jeffrey said as he climbed out of bed.
Samuel sat firm on the bed, not even trying to stop him. “Go on then, but I bet Mr. Mason will totally kick you
out for sure.”

“Well, if I get thrown out, I’m dragging you with me,” Jeffrey replied, casually straightening his clothes, his tone full of mock seriousness. “We’re in this together, kid–good times or bad, partners in crime.”
Samuel was left speechless.
編
‘Seriously, how does he always have a comeback for everything I say?‘ Samuel grumbled inwardly, unable to win a single round.
Jeffrey walked over and ruffled Samuel’s hair. “Get some sleep, kid. Don’t go missing me now.”
Samuel reminded him with a smirk, “You know Mom totally doesn’t like you.”
Jeffrey nodded. “Yeah, I know.”
Samuel warned, “If you go sneaking into her room without asking, that’s kinda creepy, you know.”
Jeffrey grinned, “Don’t worry, I’ll win her over. Just watch me.”
Samuel pursed his lips, his expression shifting like a whole rainbow of feeling.
‘If I let him crash here now, it’s like I lost the whole showdown just now. But if I kick him out… Mom might end up dealing with the fallout,‘ Samuel grumbled to himself, stuck between wanting to win and worrying about Rebecca.
While Samuel was still racking his brains, Jeffrey had already opened the door and slipped out.
“Wait a sec…” Samuel tried to call after him, but Jeffrey just shut the door.
In the end, Samuel just dragged the covers over himself and gave up worrying about it.
Grandma was here.
Mark and Tom were here too.
‘Dad shouldn’t be able to cause much drama tonight, Samuel thought to himself.
Plus, after watching how Mom and Dad interacted tonight, it’s clear she’s not as cold to him as she used to be -and Dad’s really not the type to go overboard anyway.
Rebecca had just finished blow–drying her hair when she heard a knock on the door. Seeing Jeffrey standing there fully dressed, a flash of surprise passed over her face. “Weren’t you supposed to be sleeping with Samuel?”
“Got kicked out,” Jeffrey replied, keeping a straight face.
Rebecca’s brows furrowed.
Rebecca was puzzled: Kicked out?
“Samuel’s just too easy to tease. I made a couple of jokes and he told me to get lost,” Jeffrey said, playing the victim. “I’ll hang out here for a while and head back when he’s cooled off.”

Rebecca simply nodded, no questions asked. “Alright.”
Jeffrey couldn’t help letting his eyes linger on her a bit. Rebecca looked fresh–faced, her cheeks still naturally rosy from just getting out of the shower, and a few loose strands of hair gave her a laid–back vibe. Her lips pulled into a slight pout–and honestly, he couldn’t help but want to look a little longer.
Rebecca caught him looking. “How about we head to the study?”
Jeffrey nodded. “Sure.”
Rebecca walked ahead, with Jeffrey trailing a step behind.
Once they got to the study, they plopped down together on the couch, and Jeffrey struck up a casual conversation.
They didn’t talk about anything that really mattered, but just sharing that peaceful, cozy vibe made all the heavy exhaustion in Jeffrey’s heart fade away. No one understood more clearly than him how important Rebecca was whenever he was with her, all the weight in his chest just disappeared and he finally felt at ease.
To him, she was utterly irreplaceable.
She was the one he’d trade everything he had for, no questions asked.
“Rebecca,” Jeffrey suddenly called out, his tone gentle.
Rebecca glanced up. “Mm?”
There was a tenderness in Jeffrey’s dark eyes now–all his attention was on her alone. “I like you.”
Rebecca was stunned for a moment.
She was totally caught off guard by his sudden confession.
‘Wait, weren’t we just talking about random stuff?‘ Rebecca thought, still reeling in disbelief.
“So, do you like life in Jelasburg or Honnala more?” Jeffrey didn’t give Rebecca any time to process his sudden confession. He switched gears so smoothly, it was like admitting his feelings was just small talk to him.
Rebecca answered casually, not missing a beat. “They’re both alright.”
‘Honestly, who actually falls in love with a city that feels foreign?‘ she thought, but she had no intention of letting Jeffrey see through her.
Jelasburg was where all her childhood memories lived, while Honnala had become the place she was growing and carving out her current life.
Both cities held special meaning for her, and she’d gotten comfortable in Honnala. But if she ever had to settle down for good, she knew deep down she’d pick Jelasburg every time.
Knock, knock.

Chapter 333
“Boss, getting kind of late…” Mark’s voice drifted in from outside the door.
At that moment, Mark knocked, then swung the door open and strolled in, talking as he entered.

But as soon as Mark saw Jeffrey sitting there, he stopped mid–sentence. Mark’s eyes went full robot mode and shot Jeffrey a suspicious look. “Why are you here?”
“He needed to talk to me,” Rebecca replied.
