Chapter 334
Chapter 334
Rebecca glanced downstairs. “They went downstairs.”
Samuel paused.
‘Was it something I said?‘ Samuel wondered.
“Are you going to follow them?” Rebecca asked.
“What?” Samuel blinked, not quite catching on.

“He and Mr. Mason went downstairs to talk,” Rebecca said, mostly worried they’d make too much noise and wake up Tom, who loved drama. “I wonder if they’ll end up fighting.”
Samuel said, “Dad’s no match for Mr. Mason.”
It was kind of embarrassing for his dad, but Samuel had to admit it.
Mr. Mason was seriously impressive.
He’d never met anyone more formidable than Mr. Mason.
Rebecca stayed quiet.
She honestly had no clue what Jeffrey could really do. In all five years they’d been married, she’d never seen him actually have to get his hands dirty; if any problems came up, his bodyguards took care of it before he even had to blink.
“But there’s no way he’ll get played,” Samuel piped up right away.
Rebecca agreed with that.
Jeffrey was way too smart for that–he’d never go up against someone at their own game, and definitely not if it meant putting himself at a disadvantage. Not that Rebecca had ever figured out what his weaknesses were,
anyway.
Things played out just like Rebecca and Samuel thought. When Jeffrey and Mark stepped outside into the villa’s garden, Jeffrey cut straight to the chase. “It’s obvious you can’t stand me.”
Mark answered flatly, “Yep.”
Jeffrey shot back, “So when are you handing in your resignation?”
Mark actually paused, his expression blank for a second–not expecting that.
For once, Mark’s famously unreadable face betrayed a flicker of surprise.
But Mark shot back almost instantly, “Not quitting.”

“Then you can keep that attitude for the rest of your life,” Jeffrey said, not the slightest bit worried. “Whether Rebecca and I get back together or not, I’ll always be with her.”
Mark didn’t flinch. “You can’t beat me.”
Jeffrey admitted straight up, “Yeah.”
Mark added, “And your bodyguards aren’t a challenge for me, either.”
Jeffrey nodded. “Yeah.”
Mark said coolly, “And every time you come for her, I’ll be there to stop you.”
To Mark, going back to someone who’d hurt her was pointless. Rebecca deserved better, and he wasn’t about to let her waste a single minute on a guy who’d already let her down.
She was hustling hard, running a business and paying him three salaries–no way was she gonna let emotional drama mess up her path to success.
“Stop me ten times if you want,” Jeffrey said, slowly scrolling through his phone before showing Mark a picture. “But believe me, you really don’t want to know who this is, or how they’re doing now.”
Mark glanced up casually, barely interested.
But the moment he saw the photo, he just stopped cold.
For once, actual emotion showed on his robotic face–a flash of yearning, something gentle flickered in his
eyes.
Even Rebecca had never seen him like this, not to mention Tom.
“Keep Rebecca safe, and don’t go against me,” Jeffrey said as he slipped his phone away. “Whatever you want, just name it.”
Mark just looked at him.
Jeffrey held his gaze, cool as ever.
After a long moment.
Mark nodded. “Okay.”
His reasoning was blunt. Jeffrey put Rebecca first, himself second. If he ever crossed the line and hurt Rebecca, Mark would have no problem taking him down.
Jeffrey just nodded.
That was that.
Mark hesitated, mouth half open, but whatever he wanted to ask just wouldn’t come out.

“Once Rebecca gets the Quinn family shares, I’ll tell you everything you’re dying to know,” Jeffrey said–he was never the kind of guy to make a move without having all his pieces in place. “Anything comes up, just call
me,”
Mark nodded. “Okay.”
Jeffrey suddenly thought of something. “By the way.”
Mark looked up, his face slipping back into that familiar unreadable mask.
“I already know exactly who you and Tom are, and why you showed up here,” Jeffrey said–he’d been prepared for all of this since Rebecca texted him the address for Samuel’s birthday. “I just hope you both know what’s safe to say and what’s not.”
Mark shrugged, “I always keep things in line, but Tom? He doesn’t always think before opening his mouth.”
Basically, Tom’s the unpredictable one.
Go deal with Tom.
Rebecca and Samuel watched from not too far away. They couldn’t hear anything, but all they saw was the two men standing together for quite a while. No fighting, no drama–just calmly talking. Samuel thought to himself, ‘Guess they’re just keeping it civil.’
“Come on, no one’s throwing hands tonight,” Rebecca said, giving Samuel’s hand an encouraging squeeze.
Relieved, Samuel nodded.
They hadn’t a clue what Jeffrey and Mark talked about, but Rebecca could tell–Mark was definitely on Jeffrey’s side now.
The reason was pretty obvious. During breakfast, Mark had deliberately seated Jeffrey right next to her. And after Jeffrey took off, Mark actually told her, “Boss, Jeffrey’s not that bad.”
Rebecca stared at him, completely baffled. “Huh?!”
“Wasn’t he just preaching about never looking back at old flames?‘ Rebecca thought, confused.
“You could make him your suitor,” Mark added with a straight face, “and use him to run errands for you.”
“So in your world, being a suitor just means being your personal errand guy?” Rebecca shot back, catching the flaw in his logic.
Mark just shrugged. “That’s how I see it.”
Rebecca just blinked, lost for words.
She was just about to call him a jerk.
But then Mark added, “Honestly, if I like someone, I hope she treats me like her errand guy. That way, I get to solve all her problems, she gets to chill, and everybody’s happy. Everybody wins.”
