Chapter 25
*Rory*
I bolted from the classroom, my heart pounding in sync with the chaos unfolding around me.
The commotion outside grew louder as I raced through the halls, my breath coming in quick gasps.
Then I felt something… cold. Water sloshed around my feet, creeping higher with every step.

At first, I thought it was just a spill–a busted pipe or maybe a prank gone horribly wrong–but the water wasn’t coming from anywhere that made sense. It was coming from the hall that led to the dorms.
“What the hell?” I whispered, slowing my steps as dread coiled tight in my stomach.
Students rushed past me, their voices frantic, their eyes wide with something that went beyond confusion–it was fear.
The sharp slap of water–soaked shoes echoed through the corridor, and then I saw them. Figures in black. They moved with purpose, weaving through the fleeing students with an unsettling calm.
Not teachers. Not academy security. Not students.
I took a step back, my mind racing. Who the hell were they?
They weren’t running in fear like the rest of us. They weren’t trying to help. Their presence felt too deliberate, their movements too practiced.
The way they carried themselves–silent, coordinated, methodical–made my skin prickle with unease. This wasn’t just an attack. This was a mission.
The realization hit me like a slap, sending my pulse into overdrive. But who were they here for? And why?
A dark chill settled over my spine, and I turned on my heel, sprinting toward the dorms.
“Rory!”
A familiar voice called my name just as I nearly crashed into a solid chest. Strong hands caught my arms, steadying me as I gasped for breath.
Matt.
His hands grabbed my shoulders, his breathing ragged, and his usually calm face was drawn with tension. “Are you okay?”
“– think so,” stammered, glancing around wildly. “But what’s happening? Who are those people?”
Matt’s jew ticked, his gaze shifting toward the masked figures before settling back on me.
“I don’t know, but he hesitated, swallowing hard “I think someone’s dead.”
My blood turned to ice.
Dead.
No.
No, no, no.
I shoved past him, my heart slamming against my ribs as I took off toward the darins. I now saw that everyone was running away from the dorms except the masked figures, and my heart leapt
“Mona! Dhara!” I shouted as I darted past Matt and towards the dorms.

“Rory, wait!” Matt called after me, but I didn’t stop.

Water splashed around my legs as I ran, the cold seeping into my bones. The further I went, the deeper the water became, climbing higher and higher.

A strong arm yanked me back.
I barely had time to yelp before I was spun around, crashing into Xander’s chest.
“Are you out of your damn mind?!” he barked, gripping my arms tightly. “You can’t go up there! You’ll drown!”
I blinked, my head spinning. “Drown?! What the hell is happening?! Where is all this water coming from?!”
His blue eyes darkened, his lips pressing into a hard line. “There are things you don’t know, Rory. People who are… dangerous.”
My stomach twisted at the uneasy edge in his voice.
“Someone here?” I asked desperately. “Those people in black–are they after someone?”
His jaw tightened, his gaze flicking toward the chaos before snapping back to me.
“Yes,” he said grimly. “They’re assassins. And they found their target.”
“Who?!” I demanded, panic clawing at my throat.
Before he could answer, a new sound cut through the air–a desperate cough, followed by frantic footsteps.
I spun around just as Mona and Dhara appeared, completely soaked.
Water dripped from their clothes, their hair plastered to their faces, their breathing heavy and strained.
“Oh my God,” I gasped, rushing toward them. “What happened? Are you okay?”
Mona coughed again, doubling over slightly. “I–I don’t know. Everything in the dorms just-” she broke off, shaking her head. “All the female dorms are flooded. Everything is ruined.”
“Flooded?” echoed, my mind struggling to keep up. “How? Why?”
“We don’t know!” Mona’s voice was frustrated and laced with fear. “One minute, everything was fine. Then the bathrooms just went haywire, and the next thing we knew, water was rushing out of every pipe, every faucet, every showerhead. Before we even realized what was happening, it was to our necks and we had to fight to open the door!”
My breath caught, my heart pounding “Are… are people-”
“Some got out,” Mona cut in quickly. “But we think some… some might’ve drowned.”
A heavy weight settled in my chest. People. Dead.
This wasn’t a coincidence. It couldn’t be
I looked helplessly around, my mind racing, my eyes darting toward Dhara, who was deathly silent.
