Chapter 31
*Rory*
The tension in the room was suffocating.

Xander lay on one side of the bed, his back turned to me, his breaths deep and controlled, as if he were trying his best to ignore my presence.
I did the same.
Tried, anyway.
The sheets felt too warm, my body too aware of his presence, of the slow, steady rise and fall of his chest, of the scent of cedarwood and something inherently Xander curling around me like a trap.
We had no choice but to share the bed.
And it was driving me insane.
I turned onto my side, huffing as I pulled the blanket tighter around me, trying to create some kind of barrier between us.
It didn’t work.
The air crackled with tension, thick and unspoken, stretching the silence too tight.
Then-
“Go to sleep, Rory.”
His voice was rough, laced with irritation. I huffed.
“I’m trying, but you keep breathing.”
He let out a sharp breath, turning so that he was facing me. His eyes were heavy with sleep and I had no idea how he managed to look this good at this hour.
“Excuse me?” he murmured, and I had to suppress a shiver as his breath brushed my nose.
“Nevermind.” I tried to turn, but he held me put so I was still facing him.
“You’re the one who keeps fidgeting.” Xander groaned, rubbing a hand over his face.
I crossed my arms. “Maybe if you weren’t so stiff, I wouldn’t be fidgeting.”
He exhaled sharply, and I tried to turn again. But that was my mistake.
He gripped my shoulder and spun me back to face him, and the second our eyes met in the dim glow of the moonlight filtering through the windows, something shifted.

His blue eyes were burning, intense, locked onto mine with an emotion I couldn’t name, one that sent heat spreading through my stomach.
I should have looked away.
I should have ignored it.
But I didn’t.
Neither did he.
The space between us suddenly felt impossibly small.
Xander’s gaze flickered down to my lips, and I swore I saw his throat bob. My own breath hitched as I shifted to clench my thighs tighter, and he noticed.
If it was even possible, his gaze grew even more heated, but he didn’t move.
I didn’t either.
The space between us felt charged, like the air before a storm, thick with something undeniable.
Eventually, it wasn’t a question of if but when.
Then, he moved first.
A ghost of a touch. His fingers grazed my wrist, barely a brush of skin against skin. It shouldn’t have been enough–but it was.
A sharp breath hitched in my throat. The moment our skin connected, something inside me snapped.
I surged forward and so did he.
Our lips collided, the tension of the last few weeks erupting all at once.
It was messy, desperate, consuming–a wildfire blazing through every inch of my body.
Xander growled low in his throat, rolling over me, pinning me beneath him, his weight pressing me into the
mattress.
His hands braced on either side of my head, his body caging me in, and I didn’t care.
I wanted more.
I wanted him.
My fingers tangled into his still–damp hair, pulling him closer, and pressing my body into his. A low growl rumbled in his chest, vibrating against me, and the sound made me dizzy.
He was devouring me, claiming me, kissing me like he was starving–and maybe he was.

His hands moved deliberately, trailing over my skin with agonizing slowness, like he was memorizing every inch of me. The heat of his touch seeped into me, burning through every nerve, leaving my body aching, trembling, needing.
He pushed the hem of my shirt higher, his fingers brushing over my ribs, grazing just beneath my breasts. My breath hitched, my skin hypersensitive, every nerve alive under his touch. His calloused palms were rough against my softness, but he touched me as if I were something fragile, something to be cherished and ruined all at once.
I should have been nervous.
I wasn’t.
I trusted him.
He didn’t hesitate.
Didn’t pause.
Didn’t stop.
His mouth left mine, his lips traveling down, down, his breath hot, teasing against my neck before he bit down, sharp but careful, making me gasp. My hands shot into his hair, my fingers tangling in the thick strands as his tongue flicked out, soothing the sting.
A shudder racked my body.
Nothing had ever felt like this.
His mouth continued its descent, leaving open–mouthed kisses along my collarbone, his tongue and teeth teasing, exploring, claiming.
His hands gripped my waist, pinning me beneath him, his grip tight, unrelenting.
“You’re so soft,” he murmured, his voice wrecked, strained, as if he were barely holding himself together. “So fucking soft…”
I barely had time to react before his mouth sealed over my breast, sucking just enough to send a sharp jolt of pleasure straight between my thighs.
I arched, a strangled moan escaping my lips.
He growled against my skin, his grip tightening, his body pressing harder, heavier against me.
“Xander-” I gasped, my voice breaking as his fingers dipped lower, teasing just beneath my
waistband.
“Shh, baby,” he murmured against my skin, his tongue flicking over my nipple, his other hand sliding lower. “I’ve got you.”

My thighs parted instinctively, a desperate ache coiling low in my belly, making me pant, tremble, burn.
His fingers brushed against my core, and my entire body jolted, pleasure crashing through me like a tidal
wave.
I was already soaked for him, and he knew it.
A low curse rumbled from his chest.
“Fuck.” His voice was low, dark, dangerous. “You’re dripping for me already, aren’t you?”
I burned at his words, my cheeks flaming, but I didn’t have time to be embarrassed–not when he was touching me like this.
His fingers moved slowly, deliberately, tracing tight circles, his thumb finding my most sensitive spot with devastating precision.
I choked on a moan, arching against him, my body chasing more, needing more.
“That’s it, beautiful,” he murmured, his voice dark, rough, possessive. “Let me hear you.”
I couldn’t think.
Couldn’t breathe.
I was drowning in him, my fingers digging into his shoulders, his back, his hair–anywhere.
Everywhere.
His mouth found mine again, but this time, the kiss was slower, deeper, more claiming.
His tongue swept inside, matching the rhythm of his fingers, driving me higher, higher.
I was trembling, on the edge, spiraling toward something devastating.
And then he stopped.
I let out a frustrated cry, my body throbbing, desperate, but Xander only chuckled darkly, dragging his fingers up to my lips, pressing them inside.
“Taste yourself,” he commanded.
A moan slipped from my throat as I obeyed, my tongue flicking over the salty–sweet taste of me on his fingers.
Xander’s blue eyes darkened, his body tensing as he watched me, his jaw ticking.
A growl tore from his throat as he kissed me again–harder, filthier, hungrier.
Then I felt it.

…
The press of his arousal against my thigh.
Oh.
A soft gasp slipped from me, but I wasn’t afraid.
I should have been.
But I trusted him.
:
His forehead pressed against mine, his breath hot, uneven.
“Are you sure?” His voice was wrecked, a plea and a warning all in one.
I nodded, my fingers tightening in his hair.
“Yes.”
His restraint snapped.
Clothes were removed, discarded, forgotten.
There was nothing between us now.
Nothing but heat, friction, and need.

His fingers slid over my thighs, gripping them firmly, his breath ragged as he positioned himself between them.
