I nodded. “She came to warn us. Foster is planning something, and he’s working with Natalia Thompson.”

Alexander’s jaw tightened, his green eyes flashing with alpha authority. “Let’s continue this inside. The council room is more secure.”

Once seated in the soundproofed council chamber with Ethan, Lyra, and several other high–ranking pack members, Melissa repeated everything she’d told me–this time adding a few more details.

“Alpha Foster is desperate,” she explained. “The pack is falling apart. Many believe it’s because he broke the sacred mate bond with you, Luna Summer.”

Alexander listened intently, his hand resting possessively on my thigh under the table. When Melissa finished, he exchanged a significant look with Ethan.

“This aligns with the intelligence we’ve been gathering,” Ethan confirmed. “Our sources indicate increased activity at Silver Creek’s borders, and there have been sightings of unknown wolves in neutral territories nearby.”

“What concerns me most,” Alexander said, his voice carrying the weight of his alpha authority, “is the

mention of foreign wolves. The Council should be informed immediately if Foster is bringing outside

forces into North American territories without authorization.”

He turned to Melissa. “You’ve shown great courage coming here. The Blackwood Pack offers you

sanctuary for as long as you need it.”

Relief washed over her face, but Alexander continued, his expression serious. “However, protocol requires that new refugees undergo a period of observation before being granted full pack membership. For your

safety and ours.”

I understood immediately. While I trusted Melissa, Alexander had to consider the possibility that she could be unwittingly–or even willingly–serving as Foster’s spy.

“Of course,” Melissa whispered, lowering her gaze submissively.

“It’s standard procedure,” I assured her, squeezing her hand. “You’ll be treated well, I promise.”

After the meeting, Alexander assigned one of our trusted female enforcers to escort Melissa to guest quarters in the secure wing of the pack house. As the room cleared, he pulled me into his arms, his scent wrapping around me protectively.

“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice gentler now that we were alone.

I nodded against his chest. “Just worried about what Alpha Foster might be planning. If he’s allied himself with Natalia…”

“We’ll be ready,” Alexander promised, his hand stroking soothingly down my back. “I’ve increased security throughout our territory, and Ethan has his best wolves gathering intelligence. Foster won’t catch us unprepared.”

Later that night, after a quiet dinner in our rooms, I stood by the window staring out at the moonlit forest, my thoughts still tangled with worries about what Foster might be plotting.

Alexander’s warm arms encircled me from behind, his chest pressed against my back as he nuzzled into my neck, inhaling deeply. “Your scent changes when you’re worried,” he murmured. “Talk to me, sweetheart.”

I leaned back against him, drawing strength from his solid presence. “I can’t help feeling responsible for the wolves still suffering in Silver Creek. Melissa risked everything to warn us…”

“You have the biggest heart of any wolf I’ve ever known,” Alexander said, turning me in his arms. “It’s one of the countless reasons I love you. But you are not responsible for Foster’s actions or his failing pack.”

His hands slid down to my hips, pulling me closer as his lips found mine in a kiss that started gentle but quickly deepened with hunger.

I felt Aurora respond to his touch, her need rising to match my own as his scent overwhelmed my senses. “Let me take care of you tonight,” he whispered against my lips. “Let me make you forget everything but

us.”
