chapter 129
A cold, thin smile curled at the corner of her lips: “Why does Ms. Lambert think I have the ability to pull off something like this?”
“You may not have the ability, but your reporter friend does! And I heard you’ve been cozying up to some rich guy lately. If it wasn’t your friend, it was your lover. Don’t think you can hide it from me!”
“Ms. Lambert, weren’t you the one who said everything needs evidence? Coming here to accuse me without proof–I could sue you for defamation!”
Romina stood up, bracing her hands on both sides of the desk, looking up at Nadine’s beautiful brows and eyes.
A faint coldness flickered at the upturned corners of her eyes.
“Other than you, I really can’t think of anyone more suitable…”
“Then why don’t you tell me, what reason would I have to go after you?” Romina paused for a moment, then continued, “Could it be that because you drugged me, you think I’m taking revenge?”
Nadine was almost led astray by her words.
After regaining her composure, she retorted without hesitation: “When did I ever drug you? Don’t talk
nonsense!”
Romina’s expression turned cold, her arms crossed in front of her chest, the pressure around her espe- cially heavy.
Every time she saw that face, she couldn’t help but recall scenes from the past.
Those three years of grievance and pain surged up like a tidal wave, threatening to drown her complete- ly.
After collecting her thoughts, she said expressionlessly, “Otherwise, why would you suspect me? Haven’t you considered that maybe one of your other enemies set you up?”
“No one but you would ever go after me!”
“Ms. Lambert, it’s one thing to put on a show for others, but there’s no need to pretend in front of me, is there?” Romina grinned. “Other people may not know what you’re really like, but I sure do.”

As soon as those words were spoken, Nadine’s expression turned as dark as it could possibly get.
The hand clutching her sunglasses tightened, her fingertips turning slightly white from the force.
“What do you know?” Nadine was so angry her chest was heaving. “Don’t think you know me so well!”
“Of course I know just how venomous and deceitful you can be…” Romina’s lips curled into a careless smile. “Especially in front of Jericho and Kashton.”
Without hesitation, Nadine raised her hand and swung it toward Romina’s cheek.
“Stop!”
A deep voice suddenly rang out from the direction of the front desk.
Romina had wanted to raise her hand to block Nadine’s slap, but it was already too late.
“Smack-”
A loud slap landed on her cheek.
Her cheek immediately burned with pain, the sensation spreading to her heart in an instant, making her feel utterly miserable.
When she looked back again, Miguel was already standing in front of her, shielding her with a grave ex- pression as he stared at Nadine. “If you have something to say, say it properly. Why resort to violence?”
“I was speaking to her properly, but your boss likes to spout nonsense.” Nadine raised her hand, exam- ining it closely in front of her face, her tone icy cold. “My hand just wasn’t behaving today, so I hit her. My apologies…”
The next second, Romina shoved Miguel aside and strode forward quickly.
Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped Nadine back. “This slap is for your baseless accusa- tions. I’m returning it to you.”
“Smack-”
Another slap rang out.
This one landed on the other side of Nadine’s face.
Romina responded bluntly, “This slap is for you as well.
A look of disbelief appeared on Nadine’s face. “Romina, are you crazy? I slapped you once, and you hit
me twice?”
