Chapter 74
Lucius was getting more disgusted by Sonia by the second. “You’re in no position to be bringing up Ms. Collins‘ past. If you don’t want to continue embarrassing yourself, then I advise you to shut the hell up.”
Sonia’s rage was reaching its peak. “Why do you keep siding with Ms. Collins, Mr. White?”
Wasn’t Sonia Lucius‘ plus–one tonight?
Lucius was starting to regret bringing Sonia to the gathering tonight. She was such an
embarrassment.
As she watched the scene unfold, Valerie couldn’t help but laugh.
“What are you laughing at?” Sonia asked, brows furrowed.
Disdain was plain in Valerie’s eyes. “Didn’t you spend all that effort to make yourself a perfect academically adept socialite? Yet, your perspective of the world is so narrow.
“What kind of man do you think Mr. Holt is, having spent all these years in Windmere? Who do you think Mr. Foster is? You didn’t do your research, did you?
“Do you really think these men would make it to where they are today if they didn’t have the skills needed to see through people? What’s more, does a man and a woman have to be dating in order to show up at an event together?”
Valerie then shot Lucius a mischievous look. “May I ask–are you and Ms. Woodward married or dating?”
Sonia held her breath, hoping Lucius would say the latter.
Though Lucius didn’t enjoy how arrogant Valerie was right now, he still wasn’t one to let his own emotions dictate his actions. “Ms. Woodward is only onboard as my translator, given she’s skilled in such a wide range of languages.”
His answer disappointed Sonia immensely. It seemed that she would never reach Lucius‘ heart, no matter how hard she tried.
Several foreigners came over just then. A tall, broad–shouldered man at their lead greeted Lucius with a smile.
The man spoke in his own mother tongue. Though Lucius understood it, he didn’t respond right away.
Seeing that her chance had arrived, Sonia eagerly used Valanthean to introduce herself to the man as Lucius‘ plus–one–cum–translator. She felt that the foreigner must be able to

understand Valanthean, given that it was the universal language.
But the foreigner entirely ignored Sonia’s attempt at communication.
Seeing that, Valerie calmly conversed with the foreigner in his mother tongue.

Sonia wasn’t able to identify what language the foreigner was speaking, yet Valerie was able to speak to him so easily.
Though Sonia wasn’t able to recognize which country the language was from, Lucius could. The foreigner was from a mysterious and powerful family based in Southeast Laysia. The language they conversed in was ancient Mankriti.
The foreigner naturally understood Valanthean. But due to his family’s unique history, he loathed anything to do with the language.
Sonia might not have gotten into trouble if it had been anyone else. Yet, she just so happened to be speaking to this foreign man. What bad luck on her part!
Meanwhile, Lucius was curious as to why Valerie knew Mankriti, too.
