Chapter 91
When Caelus forced Lucius to make a choice, he had already guessed that Valerie would be angry about it.
Valerie scoffed. “What does who you chose have to do with me? My life is mine alone to control. No one else has the right to decide whether I live or die.”
Looking at Valerie’s resolute figure, Lucius realized he understood this woman less and less.
The last thing he saw before he blacked out was the suffocating darkness from a lack of oxygen. At the brink of death, Valerie had swum toward him without hesitation, giving him oxygen through a kiss and buying him time to survive..
“Valerie, believe it or not, I’ve never thought of choosing between you and Sonia.” Lucius had never been one to explain himself. Yet, in that moment, he found himself afraid of Valerie misunderstanding him.
Valerie handed him a grilled fish. “Eat something first and regain some strength. With your condition, you shouldn’t be wasting your breath on nonsense.”
It was clear that Valerie was shutting him up with fish.
After giving him the fish, she ignored him, focusing on fiddling with her pen
Lucius asked in confusion, “What are you looking at?”
Valerie said, “The directions.”
instead.
By the faint firelight, Lucius studied Valerie’s pen more closely. “Does that pen of yours come with a compass, too?”
If he guessed correctly, the island they had washed up on was one of the islets the cruise ship had been scheduled to circle. Unfortunately, their phones had been lost at sea, so GPS couldn’t help locate them.
Valerie smiled, “Don’t underestimate this pen. It’s worth over 30 million dollars.”
Lucius suddenly understood. “Is the unfinished prototype hidden in the pen?”
Valerie didn’t deny it. “I paid for it, so don’t get any funny ideas.”
Lucius chuckled. “How petty.” Then, he asked, “Where did you get 30 million?”
He remembered Valerie saying she would spend his money at the auction, and he’d been prepared to let her.
Valerie didn’t hide it. “It’s from my scumbag dad. He gave me two billion dollars to buy me out

of our father–daughter relationship.”
The words left Lucius feeling oddly sour.

But Valerie beamed. “Two billion dollars is enough for me to brag about for a lifetime. From now on, I’ll eat well, drink well, and never be tied down again.”
Then, she suddenly turned to look at him. “For the record, this money doesn’t count as marital assets. When we divorce, I’m taking every cent with me. Don’t think about leeching off
me.”
Lucius had no response to that. Did she really think he’d stoop to leeching off her for a mere two billion dollars?
The next morning, Lucius awoke to the sound of insects. He couldn’t recall exactly when he had fallen asleep last night, only that when he opened his eyes again, dawn had already broken.
Not far away, Valerie was busy tinkering with something.
