Bound By Moonlight to My Mates (by Sofange Daye) novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35

A hand clamps over my

mouth.

I jerk awake, Tala snapping awake with me. She lunges to the front of my mind, ready to strike if necessary.

Shh. It’s me.Leah’s voice is low and dangerous in the dim light of Jake’s room. My eyes rake over her body and then to the cock on the bedside table. The soft glow illuminates the space, telling me that it’s two in the morning. I look back at Leah, confused. I have never seen her awake before noon.

She is already dressed, but what she is dressed in is also confusing. Black leathers cling to her body, and she has several blades strapped to her bodice. A black mask covers the lower half of her face, and I swallow as I take in the sight of her. Her brown eyes glitter like polished stones, hard and unwavering.

WhatI try to speak, but my voice is muffled against her palm.

She pulls her hand back, wiping it on her pants legs. Get up. Now.

Leah steps away from me, adjusting the mask on her face like I am diseased. I have questions, but the urgency in her tone forces me out of the fog in my brain. I swing my legs over the edge of the mattress. Leah. What’s going on? Where is Lucian?

Panic floods her gaze. I am your knight now. Lucian has to watch over the Southpaw Pack.

For the first time since I met her, I take the time to really look at her. She is small, smaller than me. There is no way be my knight. She can’t protect me.

I don’t need a knight,I mutter. I can protect myself.

She tosses me a hoodie and a mask. Don’t argue. Don’t ask questions. Just put this on.”

she can

I turn the mask over in my hands before slipping it over my mouth and nose. The fabric is stiff and itchy, as if it is meant to hold back a disease. My heart hammers in my chest. Leah, what’s happening?

She keeps her distance, something else that is so unlike her. Even through her mask, I can see the fear etched into her features. Her brow wrinkled, and her mask shifts on her chin as she frowns.

There is a sickness, the one that infected your mother, it is spreading. She lowers her voice to a whisper, trying to mask fear. Wolves are going feral, Charlotte. There is no cure. And Ronan

Her eyes flicker toward the door. Ronan is coming here. He plans to kill you.”

My legs feel weak under my weight. I don’t understand. Why would he want to kill me?

They think you are the cause, she chokes.

My fingers immediately touch the mask covering my face. Ronan and the Blackthorn pack aren’t the only ones who think I am the cause. Leah does too.

My eyes search the room for Jake. He is standing by the door with a bag in his hands. He doesn’t wear a mask, but I almost wish he were. The scowl on his lips tugs at my heart, making me uncomfortable.

I turn my gaze back to Leah. Are you sure?

My brother just got word. He’s on the way to the perimeter with warriors, trying to stall him. But if Ronan gets throughShe twists her fingers together. He’s going to kill you. His elder council has its claws in him, and the whole council is calling

for your blood. It doesn’t help that his beta has become sick.

I stumble back, clutching my hand over my heart. Isaac..

She nods, and the air seems to thicken and the walls close in around me. I pull on the hoodie with trembling fingers. I wait for her to speak. To give me some guidance, but when she doesn’t, I fill the silence between us.

Where am I supposed to go?,

Leah jerks her chin toward the window. Damon is waiting outside. He will take you into rogue territory. He will hide us. Hide you. It’s the only place Ronan won’t go hunting.”

Damon? My voice catches. Images from the club flash in my mind. His hands, his heat, the way he looked at me like he could devour me. I look at Jake. Are you coming?.

He shakes his head, his jaw set with an angry twitch/No.

Leah’s eyes soften, and she reaches a hand out for me. I don’t trust him either. But right now? He’s your best chance.”

She grabs the bag from Jake and checks the contents. You can’t take much. Only what you can run with.

I keep my eyes on Jake. I cross the room and fall into his arms. He doesn’t seem to care that I am carrying some dangerous disease. He wraps his arms around me and tugs me close to his chest. I will come for you.

I swallow hard and nod. Don’t come for me.”

Char,Leah snaps. They’ll die for you. Don’t make them.”
