Bound By Moonlight to My Mates (by Sofange Daye) novel Chapter 54

Chapter 54

The silence after Damon’s question hangs like a blade. No one moves. No one breathes. We all wait for another to make a move, but none of us are brave enough to fulfill the promises that hang between us. Finally, Ronan exhales, dragging a hand over his face. This isn’t the place for this.

Damon crosses his arms over his chest but doesn’t argue. Jake shuffles from foot to foot, his eyes never straying from mine. His hands flex at his sides like he wants to reach for me, but he doesn’t dare.

More awkward silence hangs between us. I quietly get dressed, pulling my leggings on under Ronan’s massive Tshirt. I reach for the hem of the shirt to pull it off, but all three men growl at once.

Keep it,Ronan grumbles as he pulls on his jeans.

Unable to keep the smirk from my lips, I chuckle quietly. You all have seen me naked. Why does it make a difference now? That earns me another growl from them. I roll my eyes at their possessiveness and pull on my shoes. When I rise to my feet, they are all staring at me, waiting.

What’s next?I ask.

We can’t stay here,Jake whispers. Not with the amount of Blackthorn Warriors that were just killed?

Ronan furrows his brow. How did you manage to kill them all?

The demon,Damon growls. He showed up, turned them to dust, and left.

My heart aches at the mention of Theo, but I push those feelings to the side. I can’t dwell on the single mate who doesn’t

want me.

Ronan growls. I don’t know if it is the mention of Theo or the fact that he lost warriors, but his mood shifts, and he feels more dangerous. I reach for him, but he steps away. Pacing the floor while he thinks.

We need a plan,Ronan says flatly. The Blackthorn Pack knows she is here. They will be looking for us. Samson still has her box, and he won’t stop coming until it is open or she is dead.”

Damon’s dark gaze cuts to me. He looks me up and down and scowls. Then we move her. Now.

Ronan sighs. Where?

Jake finally speaks up. To one of Damon’s apartments. They are fortified and off the radar of most packs.

Ronan raises an eyebrow. Are you suggesting moving her into human territory?

Damon growls. Do you have a better idea?

Ronan’s lips purse together as he thinks. His brow knits together as he tries to think of a better plan. After several moments, he relents. Fine, but if anything happens to her, I will kill you.

My chest tightens as I look at Ronan. You aren’t coming too?

I’ll go back.He doesn’t look at me when he speaks. I’ll find the box and bring it to you.

No.The word comes out broken. You bear my mark. If they catch you

He finally looks at me with a hardened gaze, I know how to slip through my own pack’s territory. You’re safer away from

The wind picks up outside of the cabin, banging against the walls and creeping through the cracks. It makes it feel smaller and colder. Ronan’s scent fills my nostrils, only this time, it makes it hard to breathe.

He is standing on the other side of the cabin. Too far away. I cross the small room and grab his hand with trembling fingers. Ronan

He cups the back of my neck. His thumb brushes against his mark, making my pulse quicken. I’m coming back to you,he murmurs. Do you understand? I will come back.

Tala whimpers in my mind, not wanting to let him go. Promise me,I beg.

He rests his forehead against mine. Only if you tell me am I forgiven.”

I wipe a stray tear from my cheek. That’s not fair.

Tell me,” he whispers against my skin. Tell me you forgive me.”

I sigh, pretending to be annoyed, but I can’t stop myself from smiling, Fine. You are forgiven.

He laughs lightly, brushing a kiss against my hair. I promise to come back.

Behind us, Damon clears his throat, but his voice is surprisingly calm and kind. We have to go. Now.

Ronan’s jaw twitches. He bends and presses a rough kiss to my mouth. It doesn’t claim or ask. It is just there, full of desperation and need. When he pulls back, my lips tremble.

He turns to Damon and Jake. Take care of her.It isn’t a request.

Jake’s eyes soften, but he gives the smallest nod. Damon’s mouth twitches awkwardly, but he says nothing.

Ronan releases me and turns to the door. I’ll send word when I have it.

He is gone before I can answer, slipping into the trees like a shadow.

I stand frozen, staring at the empty doorway. Damon touches my elbow, gently but firmly guiding me from the cabin. Come on, little wolf. We’ve got to move.

Jake keeps pace on my other side. His scent wraps around me, warm but muted, like a promise he didn’t know how to make yet.
