It was really late when Aiden finally returned to Winslow Residence.
The lights of the estate seemed to have long been dimmed, and all the staff and servants had already returned to their quarters.
When Aiden stepped inside, Mr. Jones was there, waiting for him.
"Sir, you are back?" the butler’s lips curled up in greeting as he stepped forward to take Aiden’s jacket.
Aiden nodded before letting his eyes wander around the house. "Has Moon gone to sleep already?"
Mr. Jones nodded and then replied, "Madam had been waiting for you for a long while. But when you didn’t return, she went to her room to rest.
Aiden nodded before checking the time on his watch. It was past the midnight. He turned to glance at the butler. "It’s getting late. You can also go and rest."
"Yes, Sir," Mr. Jones nodded, and then in no time, he also left for the quarter.
Aiden ascended the stairs, going to their room. Walking close to the bed, he stood and watched.
Arwen was sleeping peacefully, tucked inside the blanket. It wasn’t very bright in the room, yet Aiden to make up all her features in pure details as though he never needed light to see it. Even in the darkness, he could see her all so perfectly.
He stood there silently and watched her for a while, when suddenly her phone caught his gaze. His eyes shifted as he turned to look at it, brightening with a notification.
Suddenly, he remembered the call that came in the evening. The way her brows had furrowed hadn’t settled well with him.
Could it be she was hiding something from him?
That thought bothered him. For instance, he almost reached out to take her phone, but then he held himself back. His brows furrowed as he stared at the face, clearly looking devoid of any worries.
He stared at her like that for a moment before turning away to head to the bathroom.
When he stepped out, freshening up, Arwen was still sleeping as she was before. He went to change into comfortable wear before coming to bed.
The moment he lay on his side of the bed, Arwen shifted, rolling to his side and adjusting herself comfortably in his arms, as though she had been waiting for it.
"I thought you were asleep," Aiden whispered, pressing an adoring kiss over her hair gently.
Arwen relished it, humming. "I was asleep. But then you woke me up. Did you just return?"
"It’s been a while. It took me time to freshen up before getting into bed," he told her. And she tilted her head, opening her eyes to look at him.
Her hand reached to touch his face before going to his hair. She blinked, furrowing her brows. "Your hair is still wet. Haven’t you blow-dried it?"
"I did," he said, adding, "I didn’t blow-dry it completely. I was a little tired and wanted to sleep."
Her furrow only deepened. She turned before getting up to turn on the light. "You will catch a cold if you sleep like that." Getting down the bed, she already walked to the dresser to grab the blow-dryer.
Then, turning to the bed, she pulled him to sit up. "Get up and let me blow-dry it for you. You can sleep after I am done."
He wanted to argue, but when she raised her brows with seriousness, he obliged. She settled behind him and slowly dried his hair, her fingers gliding through his hair, enjoying its rich softness.
Arwen and Aiden went to work as they were supposed to.
Since Arwen had plans in the evening, she wrapped up all her work as soon as possible. By the afternoon, there was only one meeting left to attend.
"Did you check with the clients?" Arwen asked when saw Mia entering her office with a file in hand.
Mia slowly nodded. "Yes, ma’am. I have confirmed with them. They will be reaching here on time." She then pushed forward the file she brought. "This is the report from the finance department. They need your approval."
Arwen looked at him before flipping it open to check. Confirming the details, she signed her name before closing it and pushing it back. "Send it to them."
The secretary nodded, leaving the office at once.
Later, in the late after the scheduled meeting happened as it was planned. Once it was done, Arwen personally escorted the people out with smile.
"Mrs. Winslow, it was really nice to me you," one of them said, extending his hand out. "You are just like your grandmother. We could see she had trained you well to take over her legacy."
Arwen smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Jonathan. It was pleasure meeting you too. I am truly looking forward to our collaboration."
They nodded positively before the client left. Mia turned to look at Arwen while checking the time on her watch.
"Ma’am, the meeting ended in time. We can now leave for Dr. Calvin’s clinic."
Arwen looked down at her watch and nodded. "Let’s go then."
