Donovan gave Giselle a long stare like she was out of her mind.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, his cold voice tinged with fury.
This was, after all, his office—a formal space where he handled business.
For a woman he'd been sexually involved with to suddenly show up here was nothing short of an offense.
But Giselle didn't act like her usual aggressive self. She sidled up to him, eyes fixed on him as a flirtatious smile bloomed on her lips.
"It's been half a month since we last met," she drawled. "I missed you, so I thought I'd drop by."
With that, she plopped herself onto his desk. She acted completely at ease, as if she owned the place.
Despite her seductive outfit and her enticing scent, Donovan looked completely indifferent.
"Giselle, didn't I tell you to disappear from my life completely?" he asked, his voice hoarse.
The room fell silent for a brief moment.
Then, she chuckled and said, "You saved my life at the Holt residence. If I'd really vanished, wouldn't that make me look too heartless?"
As she spoke, she scooted forward on the desk until she was right in front of him. Kicking off her heels, she boldly rested her legs—clad in sheer black stockings—right on his lap.
"Mr. Kane," she purred. "Honestly, if you hadn't risked your life to save me that day, I might be dead or paralyzed by now. Don't you think I should properly… thank you?"
Donovan's expression darkened.
"Don't bring up that day again," he snapped, roughly brushing her legs off him. "If you had died somewhere else, it'd have nothing to do with me. But you dying at the Holt residence would've ruined my wedding. Like hell I'd just stand by and do nothing."
He stood from his chair and ordered, "Get out now."
Then, he went over to the full-length window for some air.
