Chapter 11
David carried Helen into the car, instinctively feeling a tightness in his chest as he turned to look at the abandoned factory behind them.
Something important seemed to be inside.
The image of that woman crawling toward him flashed inexplicably before his eyes–her figure felt vaguely familiar.
“David, what’s wrong?”
Helen asked, seeing his expression.
David withdrew his gaze and shook his head. He must be overthinking.
That bitch–how could he possibly know her!
“Let’s go.”
David drove off, his mood growing more irritable the farther they got from the factory.
He tugged at his tie absently, dazed enough to miss the car swerving around the corner.
“David, watch out!”
Helen gasped, grabbing the steering wheel just in time to avoid collision.
David slammed the brakes, jolting the car to a stop.
Heart pounding, David frowned deeply.
He’d never felt so unsettled–Lisa’s face kept floating before him.
Guilt washed over him remembering how he’d abandoned Lisa at the cemetery.
He must’ve neglected her lately, making her lash out at Helen.
Once Helen recovered, he’d spend more time with Lisa.
“David, are you missing Lisa?”
“Go back to her. I’ll get out here–I’ll be fine alone.”
Helen lowered her eyes, tearing up. “There’s a new cake shop nearby. Buy some to cheer Lisa up.”
