Chapter 243

Chapter 28: Bridgeton’s Women Prison.

75

As everyone took their seats, Josie could feel her nerves starting to rise. Everything was coming together so rapidly now; what if it all fell apart. Maybe she should have taken Marlon up on his offer to take the money and run. Just as she was about to let her nerves and doubt cloud her judgement, Joshua placed his hand into hers; smiling he looked at her and whispered,

Don’t worry, we’ve all got you.

Josie blushed at Joshua’s words while looking around the table. Next to her were all the people that mattered; the people that cared about her; the people that helped her. Taking a deep breath; Josie began to speak.

Ms. Delgato, I’m not sure how much Josh shared with you; but I want to make sure I’m as transparent as possible. Afterall, in order for all of this to work, we have to all trust each other.

Adrianna smiled briefly at Josie. Joshua had given her cliff notes of Josie’s situation; she was eager to hear the full story.

Actually, out of respect for you Ms. Bowen, Mr. Watson was limited on your overall situation.

Josie glanced at Joshua, a hint of smile in her eyes. A slight chuckle escaped her lips as Joshua turned his now redden face in the opposite direction.

I see. Well, allow me to tell youtell you all the full story.

Josie decided it was time to tell everyone the full truth. About why she took the fall for Vanessa and everything that happened during her four years in prison.

Everyone at this table already knows the reason already, but I want to tell you the truth about why I spent four years in Bridgeton’s women prison.

I’m not sure if you were aware Ms. Delgato, but I was switched at birth.

Adrianna’s eyes widen, she hadn’t known that much either. Joshua was very discreet; only saying I’ll leave that for Josie to tell you. I hope you can forgive me, but it’s her story to tell. This situation was getting more interesting by the minute.

The night I was born, the hospital made a mistake with the name tagging of me and another baby; a mixup caused them to place the wrong names on the baby baskets causing me to be raised by the Bowens, and Vanessa, the other child in question, to be raised by the Taylors.

The truth was revealed the year I turned thirteen. By then my adoptive parents had already passed so a judge ruled for me to be placed back with my biological parents. At the time, I was being raised by my grandmother Darlene Bowen alongside my older cousin Marlon.

Adrianna looked in the direction of Marlon who was staring intensively at Josie.

I wish I could tell you my life was like some new fairytalefinding my biological parents especially after losing my adoptive onesbut that just wasn’t the case. From the very beginning, it was painfully clearthe Taylors only saw Vanessa as their daughter and sister.

HonestlyI had no issues with that believe it or not. I still had my cousin and my nana. So I was okay with knowing the Taylors didn’t really see me as one of their own.
