Chapter 121

Aurora’s POV

A low growling noise came from beside me and I was surprised to see Caleb step in front of me, his hand shouting out to black me as if he was trying to keep Damien away from me. I think Damien noticed the gesture as well, but instead of backing away, his eyes met mine from across the parking space, entr saw a smirk cover his lips as Caleb let out yet another growl, louder this time.

Cal,Jade’s voice was harsh, a warning, and I realized that several spectators had actually stopped in their track to see what was going on. Shit! If Caleh did something stupid now

Quickly, I placed my hand on his arm, feeling the heat radiating off of his body. Caleb didn’t instantly back down, his shoulders were rigid and he still stand before me like an armored knight, but somehow I knew he was less tense than before.

It’s alright,I whispered, hoping that my words would get through to him. Hoping that he would know that Damien was trying to provoke him, and that he shouldn’t fall for it.

But just then, I noticed something strange. Caroline had frozen on the spot beside me, her breathing seemed a bit erratic and her eyes were wide as the looked ahead. I turned to see what she was looking at, but by that time, the boys from Ellsworth High were already gone and when I turned back, Caroline too seemed to have regained her composure.

Was that? Did I miss something? Caroline’s reaction seemed out of placeand I needed to figure out why.

But just as I was about to ask her, she took a step back, as if aware that I might have noticed something.

Caleb,Jade placed a hand on his shoulders after the coast was clear. You can’t be acting like this in front of everyone. You nearly blew our cover, and Damien would’ve loved to see that chaos unfurl! What is wrong with you?

He came to talk to Caleb at the restaurant the other day. Just before his birthday.I told Jade before Caleb could. Caleb pretty much shooed me off as soon as he saw him that day. NowI guess I kinda understand why.

Wolves are very possessive about their mates.Caleb sighed, his voice still a bit husky. I didn’t want him anywhere near you and that hasn’t changed. Stay away from him, okay? I know he won’t try to do something stupid in our territory, but still, I don’t trust Damien one bit. Make sure you stay away from everyone from Ellsworth High. Most of them are wolves, from their pack.

I didn’t exactly know what caused this rivalry between Caleb and Damien, but when I saw the large clock at the entrance turn six, I knew we were about to

be late.

Guys, I think you should be heading to the field right now.I told them, taking Caroline’s hand in mine as I tugged her towards the bleachers. We’ll be in the front row, cheering you guys on.

Right.Caleb sighed before leaning forward to place a kiss to my forehead. Take care.

I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach but tried to control the blush when I heard a few gasps from around us.

Thanks!I told him shyly, keeping my eyes to the ground.

Okay! Let’s go.Caroline and Jade both started walking in the direction of the stadium and I followed behind them, with Caleb walking next to me.

Good luck!I told them as we parted ways. They headed straight to the field as Care and I headed to the front row and started to head to my seat.

It took me a little while to find the correct seat as they were numbered in weird patterns and also because I’d never been to the stadium before for a match. Finally finding our seats, we sat down happily and looked ahead at the field to find the cheerleaders all lining up with their pompoms as the football teams huddled together next to their coaches for last minute strategies.

Mia and her gang were at the cheer squad and I had to say, they looked to be in great form. Their choreography was flawless and they moved across the field with ease, for a quick dance battle with the Ellsworth High cheer team, before the field was cleared and the football teams began to get ready for their

match.

For an instant, my eyes met Caleb’s electric blue ones across the field and he gave me a wink. That had me blushing. I didn’t get the chance to wave back since his attention turned back to his teammates the next instant, but it gave me the reassurance that he knew I was here and he acknowledged had that.
