Chapter 87

Aurora’s PO.V

Let’s face it, I know you guys hate my guts,I continued. You’ve already proven that with your actions several times in the past, but don’t you think you’re going too far this time? Caleb will be your future Alpha, so you guys being here to warnme about his wellbeing has to he more than just your fake

concerns.

Look at the audacity!Mia barked out a harsh laughter. You think the entire world is out to get you? You think our entire lives revolve around you and your sob story?

Taken aback by her harshness, I took an involuntary step back, but from the looks on both Cindy, Trisha and Laura’s faces, I wasn’t the only person surprised by her outburst.

This isn’t some high school drama where the jock falls for the loser nobody and they live happily ever after!Mia continued, her voice harsh and her tone sharp. This is about our pack! You asked me if this was about Shane, then yes, this is about him! Caleb is going to be the Alpha someday and he needs loyal supporters next to him to help him lead the pack. Shane was one of them. No matter how big of a jerk you think he was, he would have died to save Caleb But for the first time, Caleb hit him because of you! Caleb is one of us and we have known him since he was a kidand yet, he took your side!

Eyes wide with surprise, I looked at the four of them in turn. But they were no longer smirking or making snide comments. All of them had serious expressions on their faces and Mia looked angry.

The day Caroline’s parents found out that she wasn’t Caleb’s mate, they started to debate if they want to support Caleb being the next Alpha.Cindy replied, this time in an almost inaudible voice. If Caroline doesn’t find her mate on her birthdayshe might have to leave the pack, or worsebe arranged to mate with another powerful Alpha.

Noan arrangement between Caroline and another Alpha? Someone she may not even have feelings for? That sounded horribly messed up!

See?Mia asked, drawing my attention back to her. An Alpha needs helpers, supporters, by their side to rule a pack efficiently. They are no less than royalty. And if a king loses support, they open themselves up for invasion. Wolves from enemy packs will be waiting for that opportunity to take over. An Alpha and a pack are codependent on each other. But where an Alpha can teach a pack to be stronga weak Alpha will instantly be overthrown and that the pack will be taken over by someone else. It’s always going to be the survival of the fittest.

Do you understand now why we don’t want you to stay around?Trisha cut in this time, taking over from Mia. The second we understood that you were Caleb’s mate, we knew the entire pack would start to question Caleb’s capabilities as an Alpha. So leave while you can. Go away and never look back. This isn’t a warning, but a request. Think about us too, before you become a permanent chink in Caleb’s armour.

The four of them left the room then and I fell back on the bed, flabbergasted and in utter dismay.

Every single word they had spoken made perfect sense. None of this was just about me anymore. It was about Caleb and the future of the pack. Camden and Maya were very good people. They were Caleb’s parents. Which was probably why they wanted me to stay and for Caleb to be happy. But they were also the Alpha pair. I couldn’t bring any more distress upon them from within their own pack.

And besideswhat did I even have to lose? Nothing.

I could just forget this ever happenedI could forget about my stupid crush, about ever having met Caleb
