Upon seeing that Audrey could not remove her gaze from her right wrist, Amelia subconsciously straightened her bracelet to ensure that it perfectly covered her bruises. It was only then she told Audrey, "This isn't from him."
Audrey could not help but ask curiously, "Then who's the one that gifted it to you?"
Amelia replied faintly, "It's a gift from Milton."
Since she had already put it on, there was no reason for her to hide the identity of the person who bought it for her.
"Oh, I see." Acknowledging her reply, Audrey soon murmured in perplexity, "Won't Mr. Hopper mind about it?"
Hearing her almost inaudible murmur, Amelia decided to answer her doubt, "He had not known about it."
Audrey was surprised that Amelia had caught her question. She stuck out her tongue playfully and sought to ease it off, "President Ramsay, I swear I don't mean anything!"
Amelia took a glance at Audrey before she clarified, "I know what's on your mind now. But Milton is like my bestie who grew up together with me. I'm entitled to use or wear anything gifted from him as I wish. I do not need to seek for Patrick's opinion."
Even Audrey could tell that Amelia was clearly irritated whenever she mentioned of Patrick. She immediately changed the subject, "Um, by the way, why did you let your hair down today? I thought you prefer to tie it all up. I still remember that you once told me that it's easier to work with your hair tied!"
Amelia tried to brush the question off, "It's just my sudden impulse."
"Oh." Upon seeing that Amelia was not in a mood of chitchatting with her, Audrey said, "I've already cleaned the office for you, President Ramsay. I'm going back to my desk now. Just call me at my extension number if you need anything."
"Sure. Take your time." Amelia nodded in acknowledgement.
As soon as Audrey closed the door behind her, Amelia immediately took out a hair band from her drawer and tied her hair up.
Despite the fact that the office was air-conditioned, she was not pleased with the idea to have her hair sticking around her neck.
Settling down, Amelia subsequently took out the agreement regarding the project at Eastern District from her safe.
She had acquired help from Jonathan to run through all the terms and conditions in the contract before. Upon ensuring that there was no problem with the contract, she began to sign and stamp on it.
After settling everything on hand, she made a call to Fred. Upon being assured that he was in his office in the governmental administrative building, she promised to deliver the contract to him herself right away.
Before departing from her office, she let her hair down again in order to cover the marks on her neck.
Meanwhile in Roxxon Corporation.
Ring...ring...
"Mr. Hopper, your phone is ringing."
Seeing that Patrick was standing in front of the French window unmoved, the secretary who happened to enter into the office immediately reminded him of the call.
With his back facing her, Patrick did not respond to her.
The secretary heaved a sigh before she placed all the documents that she was carrying onto the table. She swept a glance at the phone screen and reminded again, "Mr. Hopper, it's Mr. Sullivan who's calling. Do you want to answer it?"
Patrick's voice was dreadfully cold when he ordered,
"Bring it to me."
"Yes, sir." The secretary took the phone and brought it to Patrick warily before she added, "I'll come back in awhile to pick up the documents." With that said, she fled from the scene in lightning speed.
Patrick pressed on the answer button before he said emotionlessly, "Hello."
On the other end of the call, Charles greeted casually, "Hey, it's been a while since we last contacted each other. How are you doing?"
Patrick said, "If you have nothing else to say, I'm hanging up now."
Charles hurriedly said, "Hey, hold on! Don't hang up my call! I have something important to tell you."
Knowing the frivolous character of Charles, Patrick immediately said, "I'm not in a mood to waste my time listening to you talking about women."
Charles snorted, "Who says I'm going to talk about women now? Eh, no! I really need to talk to you about one woman. But that woman I'm talking about is your wife. By the way, Patrick, I didn't know that Amelia is such a capable person. It was not until I learnt about the project at Eastern District..."
Feeling annoyed upon hearing Amelia's name, Patrick interrupted coldly, "Don't ever mention her name in front of me!"
He was overwhelmed with boiling anger as soon as he thought of Amelia.
It did not make sense that Patrick would ever let his own wife to deal with Sawyer.
Nevertheless, there was still one more possibility to justify the entire situation. It was possible that Patrick had already accepted and decided to move on from his past.
If this was the case, then he should not have reminded Patrick of his past anymore.
The administrative building for officials.
Amelia made known to the receptionist regarding her identity and that she was there to meet Fred. The receptionist immediately informed her that Fred's office was located at the twelfth unit on the seventh floor and that she was free to go up herself.
"Thank you." With that said, she took a lift to the seventh floor before she headed directly to the office labelled as the twelfth unit. Standing right in front of the entrance of the office, she reached out to knock on the door.
The door was opened in a short while by Fred.
Upon seeing Amelia with hair down, Fred could not help startling. In the next second, he greeted in a friendly manner, "President Ramsay, you're here! Please come in."
Acknowledging his invitation, Amelia entered his office.
Fred secretly sized her up as soon as she bypassed him and walked into his office with her back now facing him. He was aware of her beauty since the first time he met her. However, he had not known that she could be dazzlingly beautiful in a youthful way when she let her hair down.
She was a woman who was captivating in every way. If it were not for fear of the influence of the two men behind her, he believed that a woman like her would have been taken advantage by tons of businessmen.
Right at this time, Amelia abruptly turned around. As a result of this, their eyes interlocked.
Fred could not help feeling nervous as if he had been caught red-handed for peeking at her.
However, the truth was that he had not attracted suspicion of Amelia. What was more, she even smiled at him out of courtesy.
Fred hurriedly gathered himself from the previous thought and gestured her to sit down gentlemanly, "President Ramsay, please take a seat."
"Alright." Nodding, Amelia continued to walk towards the couch in the office.
Fred who was at her back still, could not help but heave a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Amelia had not caught him staring at her. Otherwise, he could not imagine what was the consequence for his action.
