Upon finalizing every details of the project, Amelia accepted the invitation to have lunch together with Fred. After having lunch, it was only then Amelia drove back to Apex Construction Corporation.
As soon as she saw Amelia passing by the corridor, Audrey immediately stood up from her desk and greeted, "Ms. Amelia, you're back!"
Amelia took a glance at her from the corner of her eyes. She had to admit that she was in a good mood after she officially entered into a contractual relationship with the government. Hence, she asked cheerfully, "Yeah. Have you had your lunch?"
Audrey took a glimpse at her watch before she replied solemnly, "Not yet. It's eleven fifty now, which means I can only go for lunch break in another ten minutes."
"It's okay, make today an exception." Smiling, Amelia was about to return to her office.
Audrey could tell that Amelia was elated upon her return as compared to her disagreeable mood earlier. She could not help but leave her desk and tailed Amelia, "President Ramsay, it seems like you and Mr. Gordon are getting along well!"
Amelia took a side glance at her just to find out that Audrey was beaming like a silly at her. Amelia felt a sense of obligation to correct her, 'Audrey, this is not about me and Mr. Gordon. It's the collaboration between Apex Construction Corporation and government of Northville that you were mentioning."
Audrey replied solemnly, "Oh! Yeah that's what I meant. My bad. I'm dead by now if today Mr. Hopper and the rest were to hear me!"
Mr. Hopper and the rest?
It made sense that Audrey mentioned Patrick this way. After all, having in mind his overbearing possessiveness, had he ever heard the rumors of affair between her and any other men, it was certain of a fact that he was going to throw a tantrum. However, Amelia had no idea to whom Audrey was referring to other than Patrick.
She asked in confusion, "Audrey, who else would want you dead other than Patrick?"
Audrey counted her fingers and she answered Amelia's question, "Mr. Cook and that sissy."
"That sissy?" Amelia hesitated for a moment before she guessed, "You mean Kaiden?"
"You're right! It's him!" Audrey's face was disdainful whenever she mentioned Kaiden.
Amelia could not help but break into a laughter, "It's true that Kaiden was gifted with such beautiful features. But after all, you can't deny that he has a manly character. You can't regard him as a sissy."
Pouting, Audrey struggled to agree with Amelia this time, "He can't be any more ordinary. I don't think he's as good as you describe."
Amelia managed to contain herself from reminding Audrey the fact that she was the one who had a crush on Kaiden the first time when she saw him.
However, Kaiden was being very rude towards Audrey on previous occasion. Amelia could only think of this as the reason why would Audrey despise him so much.
Gathering herself from her thought, Amelia continued, "By the way, why would you relate the three of them together? What's more, why would you be dead if they ever hear you saying that Mr. Gordon and I are getting along well?"
Audrey blurted out, "That's because all of them like you!"
"Huh?!" Amelia was taken aback by shock upon hearing her explanation.
Audrey could not help feeling triumphed at the sight of Amelia's reaction. After all, it was not usual to see her in a state of confusion. She then explained, "President Ramsay, I may not seem smart to you, but the truth is I know everything!
There are sparks and affection that I can tell from Mr. Cook's eyes whenever he mentions to me about you! As for Kaiden, despite his arrogance, but he's willing to listen to you at all time!
You do remember what happened the other day, don't you? He demanded for me to massage his feet in the office. But as soon as you called out his name, it was as if he had instantly changed into another person!
So, I can tell that he likes you too! There's needless to say about Mr. Hopper. He's your husband after all. I believe that two persons will only get married if they truly love each other."
Upon hearing her last sentence, A sarcastic smile crept onto the corner her lips. Amelia said softly, "Who say that true love is the only reason that people get married? Audrey, you're too young to understand this."
The smile on Audrey's face began to fade. Feeling confused, she asked, "President Ramsay?"
After Audrey left to the canteen, Amelia returned to her office. She switched on the air-conditioner before she tied her hair up with a hair band.
Upon deliberating, eventually she decided to make a call to Milton.
It took her a significantly long period of time before her call was answered.
It was Sierra who picked up the call. Amelia could hear Sierra's voice coming from the other end of the call, "Is this Amelia?
Amelia answered right away, "Hello, Aunt Siera! Amelia's here. Where's Milton?"
With a faint melancholy in her voice, Sierra replied, "He's in his room now. I have no idea what happened to him these days. Not only he locks himself in his room and hardly speaks to anyone, he barely eats too. I suspect that he's dealing with lovesickness..."
Amelia wondered if Sierra thought that Milton was missing Maryanne.
However, Amelia was more inclined in believing that she was the culprit that had led to Milton's behavior now. After all, she was aware that she had gotten Milton real mad the other day at Apex Construction Corporation.
Nonetheless, Amelia was not going to tell Sierra about this. She could not be sure that Sierra would understand their conflict.
Hence, she tried to ease it off as she said, "Oh really? Maybe that's because he's missing Maryanne. Aunt Sierra, could you please pass the call to Milton? I would like to speak to him."
"Sure." In the next second, Sierra grumbled again, "You have no idea how lost is he now. He left his phone on the table after he came down for lunch earlier. I'll bring his phone to him, Amelia. Hang on."
Amelia replied out of courtesy, "Please take your time."
Amelia could hear the sound of footsteps shuffling and door knocking before she heard Milton calling 'mom' dejectedly to Sierra over the phone.
