"Sissi attempted to commit suicide? Are you sure?"
Amelia was watching television downstairs when she saw that Patrick was about to leave the house in a hurry. Hence, she could not help but ask curiously.
Then she found out that Sissi had attempted suicide.
Amelia was taken aback by surprise with this news. However, it did not take long for her to burst out in a laughter.
Patrick seemed to have expected the mockery laughter from her. He said faintly, "Dad hadn't told me much in the phone. I need to pay a visit at the hospital myself."
Amelia could not help but analyze for him, "Do you think that someone as selfish as her would ever risk losing her life? I guess she was probably trying to trick you into meeting her. After all, you had stood her up today."
Bearing in mind that Sissi was not a fool, Patrick disagreed, "What if she killed herself accidentally?"
"It turns out that she is still as fit as a fiddle." With that said, she waved at him as she urged, "You should go now."
Patrick was almost driven crazy by her indifference.
Squinting his eyes, he asked, "Are you coming with me?"
"Why must I go? She is none of my concern. I don't think I'll be able to contain my laughter if I were to be there myself."
Patrick had no other choice but to go on his own.
However, bearing in mind that he was not fit for driving with his injured fingers, he decided to hail a taxi to the hospital.
Amelia sneered as she heard the sound of door closing.
She did not need to go there herself to know what had happened to Sissi. Instead, she preferred the easier way through making a call.
She picked up her phone and dialed Howard's number. As soon as her call was answered, she cut it short, "Dad, Amelia's here speaking. I heard that Sissi was rushed to the hospital. May I know what had happened?"
Ten o'clock at night in the hospital.
"That's what had happened."
Howard had already calmed down when Patrick arrived at the hospital. He briefly updated Patrick regarding what had happened to Sissi, although he made no mention of all the pieces of information that might be used against him.
Patrick could not help frowning at his words. He took a glance at the ward when Sissi was staying before he asked, "Are they safe?"
Howard replied guiltily, "Yeah. The mother and child are in good condition."
He did not think that he was going to forget the scene where Sissi hit her head against the wall for some time. It was as if he had been pushing her to her limit that drove her into attempting suicide.
Patrick nodded before he hushed, "It's good to hear this."
"Alas, you should go and see her now!" Howard could not help but sigh. After all, he could not bring himself to be completely merciless towards that woman.
"Alright." Patrick took a final glance at Howard before he entered into the ward. He could tell from Howard's expression that he was yet to recover from shock. Hence, Patrick said, "Dad, you should go back first. I can take care of this."
Howard hesitated.
It was as if Patrick could read Howard's mind.
Patrick answered his doubt, "Sissi had already injured her forehead. Do you really think it's possible for her to stand up on her own and go back with you? Can you be a little more humane?"
Upon hearing him, Howard decided to compromise, "I can agree that she doesn't have to leave right away. But in return, you must also agree with one condition."
Patrick asked with his eyebrows raising, "What's that?"
"Go back on time. You're not allowed to stay overnight here."
It seemed like Howard really cared about Amelia. Patrick could tell that he was worried that Amelia might overthink if he were to stay here.
The truth was that Amelia was aware that he was here to visit Sissi, and yet she did not seem to bother at all. Patrick wondered how would Howard react to Amelia's calm reaction if he were to know of it.
In between his thought, Patrick replied, "Fine, I can promise you."
He put his hand at the back before he said, "Lie down properly. You're not supposed to move around."
After a few moments of observation, Sissi stated affirmatively, "You're mad at me."
Patrick husked, "Why did you say so?"
Sissi forced a bitter smile and said, "You're not smiling at me."
Patrick threw the question back at her, "You're injured. How can you expect me to smile now?"
Sissi touched her bandaged forehead and asked warily, "Are you putting the blame on me for injuring myself?"
"Yes."
Sighing, Sissi said, "Had Mr. Howard not pushed me pass my breaking point, I wouldn't hit myself at the wall either." "Did you just say that it's my dad's fault?" Sissi's version of story was clearly incompatible with the one that Howard had told him at the door.
Feeling wronged still, Sissi grumbled, "Mr. Howard refused to accept the fact that I'm carrying your child! He asked me to get you into convincing him! There's no way that I can get to see you since I'm being detained. Don't you think that he was trying to find my problems?"
"Sissi, you should calm down." Patrick turned around and swept a glance at the back. After convincing himself that Howard's underlings were staying outside of the ward and could not overhear their conversation, he finally said, "Have you completely forgotten the fact that this is not my child?"
Sissi reacted to his words aggressively, "But this wasn't what you had said during the time at Golden Sunshine."
"That was a white lie to fool my my dad into believing it so that he can keep you and your child safe!"
Sissi remained in silence for some time before she plastered a bitter smile on her face and said, "Yeah! It seems like I've been fooling myself into believing that you're going to take this child as yours. I must have forgotten that this child is nothing but a
b*stard." "Sissi, don't you ever call your child this way! It does nothing wrong at all!"
Patrick continued to comfort her, "I totally understand your feeling. But you must think optimistically. At least you're safe from your ex-husband's harassment if you're in my dad's custody."
Sissi looked at Patrick in his eyes before she said gloomily, "Patrick, do you really understanding the feeling that there's no one I can talk to every day? I won't see any human being around until it is time for meal to be served."
What Sissi was unware of was that Patrick had been locking himself up in his room for a long period of time after she had left him. What he had undergone was no doubt far worse than how she felt at this moment.
