The man who helped her with the final missing piece to her question was staring into her eyes at this moment. He hushed, "Ms. Ramsay, are you okay?"
Amelia's face was as pale as a ghost. Her voice was strained as she stammered, "Is that woman named Sissi?"
Sawyer sounded surprise when he confirmed her doubts, "Oh? You heard of her before?"
What Amelia did not tell was that she had not only heard of her.
Amelia caught a glimpse of Abner's room which was opposite of the corridor from the corner of her eyes. She struggled to find her voice as she asked it out loud, "So is she Abner's mother..."
"Abner's mother..." Neither did Sawyer admit nor had he admitted.
It was as if her recognition of reality had just collapsed. She leaned her feeble back against the rail as she already knew of the answer.
All this while, she thought that The Hopper Family and The Quartley Family used to rivals in business, that was why they had been holding grudges against each other. Believing this, she had faith that the conflict between the two families could be solved somehow eventually.
What she had never expected was that it was the man standing right in front who snatched Sissi away from Patrick. In short, Sawyer was the culprit who came in between Patrick's and Sissi's relationship.
If it turned out that Sissi was the biological mother of Abner, then there was no way that the conflict between the two families could be resolved.
Her confidence and determination to solve their conflict as a middle person were crushed into pieces all of a sudden at this very moment.
Despite struggling to recover from shock of this information, Amelia smelled something fishy from their contractual relationship, "If this is the case, you're supposed to hate Patrick to the max. Why would you help me out still?"
Not only Amelia was charmingly capable as always, she managed to keep herself together despite receiving the timebomb in her life. At the sight of this, Sawyer replied faintly, "Don't forget that you've saved Abner before."
Amelia found his answer ridiculous, "Just because of this reason?"
Sawyer remained expressionless when he affirmed,
"Yes."
Amelia began to glare at him in despise as she snapped, "It's impossible! You're trying to use me so that you can take revenge on Patrick!"
Sawyer cut it straight, "It was never me but Kaiden who came up with this idea.
Amelia was completely vexed.
After all, the wrong move that she made at the very first place was the reason she ended up in this dilemma.
When she was in the government hall, she bluffed everyone by saying that she got a mysterious investor for her company in order to secure the planning project at Eastern District.
Just as everyone was not willing to give her the benefit of doubt, it was Kaiden who stood up to speak for her as Sawyer's cousin.
Now that she recalled, Kaiden was not planning to help her at all. All he wanted was to set a trap for her to fall into it herself.
From the moment she came out from the government hall, she was already trapped in Kaiden's plan to get revenge on Patrick.
At that moment, she had no other choice but to approach Sawyer in order to cover up her lie.
The irony part was that all this while she thought that Sawyer had agreed to invest in her company because she had saved Abner's life.
She had always been grateful that she was fortunate enough to get Sawyer into helping her out. It was only until this moment that she realized she was nothing but a tool used for revenge by Sawyer.
It was as if someone had just put a bullet right through her body.
The joy over good news regarding the planning project at Eastern District that had kept her occupied and motivated all this while vanished all of a sudden.
Upon seeing the sorrow in her eyes, Sawyer promised understandingly, "Ms. Ramsay, I can assure you that I will not involve you in the conflict between me and Patrick."
"Why didn't you tell me in the very first place that both of you had been competing for the same lover before? How can you expect me to trust that you're not using me?" At the verge of breakdown, Amelia was already whimpering.
"You're going to retreat if I were to tell you when you first came to me, aren't you?"
All in a sudden, Amelia could not find any words to deny his assumption.
Seeing that Amelia had not retorted, Sawyer began to show sympathy towards her, "Even until now, Patrick had never changed. He is still a frivolous man who can never settle down even if he has already married you. This can only suggest that he still can't get over Ms. Roberts."
Amelia could feel her jaw dropping in bewilderment as she struggled to seek his validation on her guess, "Hold on! Is Sissi your teacher too?"
Sawyer nodded affirmatively before he recalled, "Yeah. She used to be my high school home tutor. I still remember every piece of memories we once shared together. Honestly, I can't get over her. I bet Patrick who had been spending years together with her can never forget her."
The affection that overflowed from Sawyer's eyes was exactly the same one where Amelia could find in Patrick's eyes once upon a time whenever he mentioned of Sissi.
Above all, she could not help feeling that the love Sawyer had for Sissi was comparatively more feverish and intense!
At this moment, Amelia regretted having any good impressions of Sawyer when she first met him. In fact, he was supposed to be a nightmare for her from the very first moment they met.
With her heart sinking, Amelia continued to ask, "After we officially entered into a contractual relationship, I don't see any media publishing this news or digging into the identity of mysterious investor that Apex Construction Corporation is having. You're the one who prohibited the publication, am I right?"
"You're a smart woman, Ms. Ramsay."
"But why must you do so?"
"I don't want to make your situation difficult. I don't think you want Patrick to know of the deal between us."
"Bullsh*t!"
"I won't say that you're entirely wrong, Ms. Ramsay." Sawyer replied solemnly, "Honestly speaking, it's not because I want to help you out. I'm doing this for the sake of Abner. As I've already told you earlier, fate had brought you to Abner. I need you here to help Abner. If Patrick were to know that we had came to an agreement, I'm sure that he will never let you come again."
"Stop using Abner as your excuse!" Amelia grasped on his blazer forcefully all in a sudden. She blasted furiously, "You set me up from the very first moment when you agreed into cooperating with me!"
"Ms. Ramsay. Forgive me that I need to refresh your memory. You were the one who came to me looking for my help. I had never forced you into making any decisions."
