After using the washroom, Amelia was not in a hurry to return to Abner's room. Instead, she was attracted by the decorations in the mansion that she decided to tour around.
She accidentally came to the room which was exclusively reserved for Sawyer. She had no intention to stop by at all. However, the room door was opened at this time.
She took a step back in shock.
Upon seeing her, Sawyer's gaze went cold before he closed the door behind him in the next second. He said, "Watch out, Ms. Ramsay."
Upon hearing him, Amelia seemingly felt her back knock into something.
She turned around just to realize that she had already knocked into the rail of the corridor. It finally made sense why Sawyer said so.
She straightened herself in embarrassment and was about to leave. However, Sawyer was standing right in front of her and blocking her way.
Unlike Patrick, Sawyer did not seem to be someone who was overbearing and narcissistic. Neither was he as warm as Milton nor was he distantly cold like
Kaiden. Above all, Amelia could not help feeling that he was a person who was extremely dangerous.
Coming back to her senses, Amelia said politely, "Mr. Sawyer, I have no intentions on coming across this place. If there's nothing else, could you please excuse me? I'm returning to Abner's room."
"Ms. Ramsay." Blocking her way still, Sawyer gaze fell onto her hand as he said, "The bandage on your wrist has become loosen."
Amelia looked down and confirmed his words.
Sawyer asked faintly, "Do you mind if I help you?"
Amelia turned his offer down politely, "Um... You're such a gentleman, Mr. Sawyer. However, I think I'm fine on my own."
As she spoke, she began to tighten the loosened knot of her bandage.
However, it turned out that she began to lose track of the number of her failed attempts.
It was at this time that she heard Sawyer's distant voice coming from top, "I seems like you're not good at bandaging yourself single-handedly."
Upon hearing this, Amelia had no other choice but to glance up. Seeing that Sawyer was towering her with no intention to make fun of her, it was only then she said, "I shall thank you first." "Ms. Ramsay, don't mention it please." With that said, Sawyer began to pick up what she had left for the knot of her bandage.
"Is this alright, Ms. Ramsay?" Sawyer lifted her hand gently in order to show her the end result.
Amelia took a glance at it before she said, "It's perfect. Thanks again for your help, Mr. Sawyer. I shall return to the room now."
Instead of lifting it, Sawyer began to hold her hand gently as he said, "Ms. Amelia, can I have a word with you?"
Standing still, Amelia had no other choice but to stay, "Mr. Sawyer?"
Looking into her eyes, Sawyer began to speak, "You've been here to teach Abner for some time..."
Amelia broke out in a cold sweat. After all, it had only been two afternoons so farthat she had spent with Abner.
Sawyer continued, "What do you think of Abner?"
She had not forgotten the fact that the man standing right in front of her was the largest investor of Apex Construction Corporation. She was not a fool to talk bad of his only son at this moment.
"Abner is brilliant child. I believe he is going to be as successful as his father when he grows up."
Sawyer let go of her hand before he commented in faint disappointment, "But he can't even come out
with one sentence properly."
Amelia comforted him, "I don't think that Abner cannot speak at all. All he needs is proper guidance to lead him into talking."
Sawyer gave her a meaningful look before he said, "Among all the teachers I have employed so far, I think you're the only one who can bring the best out of him."
Amelia immediately assured him, "You're well assured, Mr. Sawyer. I will make sure that he's always on the right path!"
Sawyer shook his head before he said, "Ms. Amelia, this is not what I meant. After all, I'm just surprised with the arrangement of fate that has brought you and Abner together."
Amelia relaxed a little after hearing him. All she hoped was that Sawyer would not doubt her intention just like what Andrea did when she first learnt of Amelia's presence.
It seemed like Sawyer was in a mood to maintain a conversation with her. She heard him saying, "By the way, Ms. Ramsay, how's the progress of your company regarding the project at Eastern District?"
After all, her question made no mention as to whether there was any grudge held between the two of them. Even if Sawyer decided not to answer her question, neither of them would be embarrassed by her question.
Sawyer seemed to be enlightened by her question. Smiling, he said, "Now I see. This is what bothering you, Ms. Ramsay..."
Amelia could not help feeling a chill running down her spine at the sight of his smile.
Ever since she came to know Sawyer, she barely saw him smiling at all. Hence, her gut told her that the smile lingering at the corner of his lips signified danger.
Although she was only one step away from the answer she had been longing for, her instinct told her that she should stop digging into their past. Hence, she said, "Um, you don't have to answer if you're not comfortable with my question."
"Why would I feel uncomfortable with it? The truth is, I'm waiting for you to ask me all this while..."
Sawyer took a pause as his smile began to fade. He then said, "Judging from the background of The Hopper Family, I bet everyone has heard of Mr. Patrick. What's more, we ended up fighting for a same woman before."
Amelia recalled what Granny Hopper had told her before. According to her, there was a woman who almost got married to Patrick. However, there was rumor saying that meanwhile she was also in an intimate relationship with the son of a businessman.
The worst thing was that it soon became apparent that she was already engaged to another man abroad during the time she had been together with Patrick.
After recalling this key information, Amelia's face turned as pale as a sheet. At this moment, she heard nothing but her heart pounding rapidly.
She then remembered that Ryan once told her with regret that he was the last person that Patrick would want to seek as a business partner.
It began to make sense that why would Ryan be embarrassed when he was asked to collaborate with Roxxon Corporation.
Meanwhile, Andrea's words could not stop linger in her ears. She refused to tell Amelia regarding of the past since she thought that Amelia was innocent after all. Even Ryan too would not want to unnecessarily involve Amelia into the war between two men.
This was what Amelia found out from Andrea especially after she knew that Amelia was Patrick's wife.
Last but not least, Kaiden had once told her that Patrick was his enemy.
Alongside, she remembered the mixed emotions of rage and hatred on his face when he said so.
Every piece of information began to add up to an illustration of the whole story.
