As she grumbled, Kaiden began to convince that he was not the b*stard that she was referring to. At the thought of this, he could not help but wonder if Patrick was the one that she was describing.
In other words, the one who broke her heart was Patrick, not him!
Kaiden heaved a sigh of relief before he found himself in another dilemma.
All these while, he was aware that it was very rare for Amelia to burst out crying. This also suggested that the person whom she cried for must somehow be someone she cared deeply about.
Whenever Kaiden thought about how it was Patrick who made her cry, he could not help feeling envious.
"I see! So, it turned out that Patrick was the one who asked you out tonight! Do you really think that you can make him fall for you again by you dressing up yourself in this way? What a waste if I were to remind you that he's not good for you!"
"What do you know?" Amelia glanced up with her teary eyes as she sneered coldly, "You know nothing!"
Kaiden could not help feeling sorry for her. Hence, he muttered genuinely, "Yeah, it's true that I know nothing. But, you know what? That's because you have never given me a chance to know you better! I'm sure that as long as you're willing to give me a chance, I will prove to you that I can do better than him! Hold on, why must I compare myself with a b*stard like him? Amelia, I'll take good care of you and your child so much better than he will ever do!"
"That's enough, Kaiden!" Amelia interrupted, "I'm beginning to see you in a different light after the day you rushed me to the hospital. So, if you're going to start your nonsense talk again, I'm afraid that I'm going to change my mind again."
Kaiden shut his mouth instantly after hearing her. The truth was, he was terrified that he might provoke her into putting her threats into an action at any time.
Kaiden's momentary silence led Amelia to think that she had successfully shut him up. Hence, she decided that it was time to stand up.
However, in the next second, Kaiden stood up in a hurry after her. He did not bother to dust off the dirt on his pants before he grabbed and pulled her into his arms all in a sudden!
Amelia was stunned for a moment and suddenly, she struggled to get rid of his embrace frantically.
She was yet to recover from the shock of what Mr. Quade had almost done to her. Hence, she struggled to use every part of her body possible to fight him off since her hands were being secured by Kaiden's grip.
In normal days, Amelia could not help but to cast a doubt on Kaiden's strength as he appeared to be anything but manly. However, it was at this moment when Amelia realized that his strength was more than enough to deal with a woman like her. Unexpectedly, he managed to withstand all sort of physical attacks from her.
Perhaps it was also because Amelia was wearing a pair of flats instead of heels. There was no doubt that flats were relatively useless in assisting her defense when it came to emergencies. Had she been wearing a pair of heels today instead, Kaiden might not be the one who was on an advantageous side.
Eventually, Amelia could not tell whether she had drained off her last strain of energy or if she was finally convinced that it was Kaiden and not Mr. Quade who was standing in front of her. With a gloomy expression, she rested her forehead which was covered by a thin sheer of sweats on Kaiden's shoulder.
She felt extremely exhausted at that moment. A surge of dizziness swept her feet away. She had no other choice but to rest on Kaiden's shoulder for a while.
Kaiden was driven by an impulse to protect the woman in his arms regardless as soon as he felt the weight of Amelia's soft and weak body that was leaning against him. Her head could barely even reach the to the heights of his shoulder.
In an instance, he felt that it was a perfect timing for him to confess. Hence, he said, "Stop torturing me, Amelia. I know that I used to treat you poorly in the past. All I did was being too calculative on you. But, I swear that I regretted for everything that I have done to you. All I want now is to give you the world. I can bring you to my parents tomorrow if you want to... Hold on, or if you prefer the other way round, I can ask them to pay a visit to you too!"
A night breeze swept her away and sent a chill running down her spines. Amelia could not help feeling more nauseous than ever. With her lips trembling, she murmured, "Kaiden, can you stop talking for a while? I'm not feeling very well now."
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" With that said, Kaiden hurriedly lowered his glance just to realize that Amelia was as pale as a ghost.
Before he could respond to her condition, all in a sudden Amelia cried out frowningly, "Hurry! Let go of me now! I can't hold it back anymore! Retch..."
Amelia's attempt to warn Kaiden seemingly failed as she could no longer hold back her urge to puke.
Amelia could not help but to take a few steps back in terror. She swore that she would run away without looking back if it were not for her that Kaiden had ended up in such a mess.
"Tell me, what should I do now?" Kaiden thought of crossing his hands in front of his chest. However, he soon realized that it was not possible since there was a large area of stain on his suit. He hurriedly pinched his nose with one of his hands while the other one waved frantically in the air in an attempt to get rid of the foul smell.
Amelia thought for a moment before she brought herself to a hard choice, "I can lend you my car so that you can drive back home."
Kaiden murmured, "Hmm, that works..."
With that said, he reached out his hand and said, "Give me your key!"
In the next second, Amelia changed her mind again as she said, "No way!"
"Why not?" Kaiden furrowed as he began to wonder if Amelia was doing this on purpose in order to let him stay uncleaned here.
"You're just too dirty for my car. If you were to drive, I'm sure that you're going to stain and stink up my car. No way I'll let you do this to my car..."
Just like what Kaiden once told Patrick, Amelia cared about her car more than anything else.
"Dirty?" Kaiden rephrased after her before he cried out indignantly, "Who's the culprit here?!"
"I didn't ask for you to hug me earlier on. Besides, I've already reminded you to let go of me..."
