At the sight of being pointed with guns, Sawyer was alert enough to put his hands over his head. However, a hint of anger began to flash across his eyes. He came to think that there was indeed an undercover agent that had sneaked into the club.
At this time, the policeman who was leading all this while came forward and approach Amelia. Furrowing, Amelia stared at him alarmingly. She wondered what he wanted from her.
The policeman stared at her for a while before he asked politely, "May I confirm with you, are you Amelia Ramsay?"
Amelia swept a glance at the police badge on his shoulder. It was only then she decided to give him the benefit of doubt. She asked tentatively, "I am. May I know who are you?"
The policeman replied, "We're from Eagle Action team. Our captain, Owen Hopper, ordered us to pick you up."
"What did you say?" Sawyer and Amelia blurted out together almost at the same time. However, it was not hard to tell that Sawyer sounded cold while the other was excited.
There was no doubt that Amelia was over the moon to hear Owen's name at this moment!
After all, Owen was no different than her family.
Amelia felt a rush of heat surging her eyes. She immediately took a deep breath to hold back her tears. She would not want to shame herself in front of the police.
The policeman then said, "Ms. Amelia Ramsay, this isn't somewhere safe. It'd be better for you to leave with us right away."
"Right!" Amelia did not hesitate at all. She trusted that the force in front of her would protect her safety.
At the sight of her shaking legs when she attempted to get down from the bed, the policeman asked concerningly, "Ms. Amelia Ramsay, are you okay?"
"I..." Amelia could not bring herself to explain to a man of her condition.
He continued to ask, "Do you need me to carry you?"
At this point in time, there was no need for her to feel embarrassed. In fact, she did not mind to let a policeman carry her. However, what caused her to hesitate was that she did not want to have their work progress delayed because of her.
Eventually, she decided to let him carry her, "I think I shall trouble you."
"It's not a trouble at all. By the way my name is Carl."
Just as Carl was about to carry her up, it was only then Carl noticed the abnormality of her dress. He was stunned for a second. He decided to cover her up with a blanket before he bent forward a little to carry her.
When Amelia passed by Sawyer, she realized that he was still having guns pointed at his head. Amelia could not help asking, "Carl, what are you going to do to him?"
Carl lowered his glance at her as he replied, "His presence alone at this place is enough to raise suspicion. Hence, we have to arrest him and run a background check on him to verify his identity. Judging from the bruises on your arms, he has been torturing you, hasn't he?"
Amelia explained, "In the contrary, he's the one that helped and saved me. Can you please be kind to him?"
When Sawyer heard Amelia's reply, an indescribable emotion flashed across Sawyer's darkened gaze.
Her request had sent Carl into a dilemma.
Amelia understood that he was only responsible to execute orders from his captain. Hence, she said, "Why not you send me to your captain and I'll speak to him regarding this."
"All right then." Carl nodded and turned around and spoke to his colleagues, "Keep the gun down."
"Yes, Sir!" The force immediately did as per instructed.
Followingly, Carl turned around and asked Amelia politely, "Ms. Amelia Ramsay, is that okay for you?"
Amelia nodded as she replied, "That's enough. Thank you."
At the end of the day, Amelia was convinced that anyone in his shoes would feel better without being pointed by firearms.
Sawyer's gaze followed Amelia as she was being carried away by a policeman. However, the spark of danger that flashed across his eyes immediately alarmed the policemen around him. One of them plucked his courage and shouted, "Behave yourself!"
With his eyes narrowed, Sawyer shot the policeman with a disdainful look. Despite the fact that he was going to be arrested, it appeared that he was not threatened at all by their presence.
After Carl left the presidential suite with Amelia, it took him some time before he found the way to the main office of the club.
The senior management of the club was being subdued after having a considerably tough fight with the police force. Each of them had been cuffed as they were being escorted out of the office.
At the sight of this, Carl lowered his glance and said, "Ms. Amelia Ramsay, our captain is in there."
Amelia thought that she was going to meet with Owen who was akin her family, and she could not help beaming. It was the bright smile of hers that dazzled Carl all in a sudden.
He soon thought of the dress she was wearing. At the thought of this, Carl could no longer look at her in her eyes. He flushed as he muttered uneasily, "I... I'll carry you inside now."
Amelia immediately came to notice that his face reddened all in a sudden. She could not help feeling puzzled. After all, he seemed completely fine a few seconds ago.
She could only think of one possibility. She asked tentatively, "Carl, I know that I'm heavy. Why not you put me down here? I think I can walk inside on my own."
Carl could not bring himself to meet her eyes still.
He hurriedly said, "No, you're not. We're almost there anyway."
She is so gorgeous!
He witnessed the entire process when Sawyer successfully bid Amelia during the auction. However, his hands were tied at that time as he was awaiting for additional police force from outside.
At the sight of Sawyer forcing Amelia into sitting on his lap and kissing her cheek, Owen fell into a dilemma. After all, in his eyes Amelia was Patrick's wife as well as his sister-in-law! She was the only woman that Gramps would recognize as Patrick's legal spouse. In short, he was entrusted by the Hopper Family to protect the safety of Amelia.
Fortunately, Sawyer was caught up in his business dealings that he did not notice Owen's presence at all. Otherwise, had he been exposed on the spot, his plan to work hand in hand with the police force from outside would undoubtedly fail altogether!
Amelia knew very well that it was Sawyer that triggered Owen's vindictiveness at this moment.
She had to admit that Sawyer had been behaving like a b*stard all this while. However, it was also undeniable that Sawyer was there in time to save her and her child from jumping down from the stage.
"Owen, Sawyer had saved me from a great deal of troubles today. That's all I want to say. I shall excuse myself now."
Amelia knew very well that she had no right to ask a favor from Owen who was merely discharging his responsibility. A reminder was what she could do for Sawyer at her very best. His final fate was out of her hand.
"Got it." Upon hearing this, Owen flashed her a smile before he ordered Carl who was carrying Amelia all this while, "Bring her to the room and settle her down. I'll hold you accountable if anything goes south!"
"Yes, Sir!"
After Amelia left the office, she sought for an update of the situation. She asked, "Carl, is everything under control now?" "Yes. Everyone in the club had been caught redhanded. They were being arrested and detained. There's no way that any of them is going to escape from our hands!" It was not hard to tell that Carl was triumphed with the success achieved by the police force.
Amelia asked again, "Oh, I see. Does that mean that I'm safe now?"
Carl promised dutifully, "You're right, Ms. Amelia. I can assure that your safety is well assured. We swear that we're going to protect you and your property at the cost of our lives!"
"I trust you." Acknowledging his goodwill, she then continued, "Since everything is under control and I'm safe now, it'd be inappropriate for me to trouble you anymore. You can put me down now."
Carl wished that he could turn back time and take back his words.
Amelia was not a burden to him after all. In fact, he enjoyed carrying Amelia around in particularly when he passed by his colleagues. Their envious stare led him into thinking that he was a hero who had just won a beauty's heart. He had to admit that he felt extremely good of such feeling.
Not wanting to cave in, Carl asked carefully, "Ms. Amelia Ramsay, did I do anything wrong?"
Amelia shook her head as she explained, "You did nothing wrong. I'm afraid that you're getting tired."
As she replied, Carl hurriedly said, "I swear it's not tiring at all! I used to run with a sandbag that weighed a ton during my physical training!"
Amelia bit her lips before she brought herself to explain in embarrassment, "Carl, you've been extremely helpful. It's just that I feel... stuffy under the blanket..."
The effect of the drug in her body had been fading significantly over time especially with the help of Sawyer's iced water. She would not want to risk triggering her blood circulation that would as well restore the effect of the drug back to her body!
