Patrick immediately walked up to Amelia and hugged her once Owen left. Then, he asked gloomily, "Mrs. Hopper, why did you invite Owen?"
Amelia leaned in his arms and asked with a smile, "Are you jealous because of that?"
Before this, Patrick would have sneered and said nothing. Then, the conversation would have ended.
Surprisingly, Patrick admitted affirmatively, "Yes, I'm jealous! My mood is so sour that it feels like I'm drowning in vinegar..."
Amelia embraced him with a broader smile when she heard him. It was not easy for Patrick to speak his mind as he used to be poor at expressing himself.
After that, Amelia comforted Patrick gently, "Don't be like this. Owen has taken a great risk to release Sawyer. We should at least invite him over for a meal, right?"
"Since you've made up your mind, my opinion doesn't matter," replied Patrick gloomily. "Also, Sawyer is the one who is at Owen's mercy, so he should be the one to treat Owen a meal. That's none of our business." "Ah, stop splitting hairs! Owen has worked so hard to protect our safety. The most important thing is that he's our family, isn't he? What's wrong with inviting him over for a meal? You're so petty!" Amelia exclaimed.
Before this, Patrick would have kissed Amelia hard and leave her breathless when she whined about him.
However, he grinned instead. He then asked excitedly, "What did you just say?"
Amelia raised her eyebrows and thought, "What's wrong with this man today? Why is he so happy when I'm complaining about him?"
"I said you're petty!"
"No. Not that sentence!"
"That Owen has worked hard to protect us?"
"No, no!"
"That... Owen is our family?"
"Yes!" Patrick lifted Amelia in the air with a swoop and spun her around. Then, he lowered his head and gave her a peck on the cheek. "Mrs. Hopper, did you just promise to re-marry me?" Patrick asked.
"What?" Amelia was puzzled.
"Didn't you say Owen is our family?" Patrick emphasized the word 'our' before he continued, "Don't forget that we're divorced, so technically, you have nothing to do with Owen! You should call him 'Officer Hopper' instead of 'Owen', unless you're willing to marry me again!"
Amelia's face blushed when she understood what Patrick was trying to say. "Don't forget that your grandfather has forced me to be his granddaughter. If that's the case, your grandfather is my grandfather, so your eldest brother is my eldest brother too. So, there's nothing wrong for me to say that Owen is our family," she retorted.
Patrick was so flustered that he wanted to spank her from her sly look. Then he continued, "Now that you've mentioned it, I get so mad when you mimic Florence's tone whenever you address me as your brother. I get goosebumps. It's disgusting!"
Amelia chuckled and replied, "It's because you used to bully me all the time. You deserve that!"
Patrick narrowed his eyes and said on a whim, "Mrs. Hopper, why don't you call me 'Patrick' again?"
Amelia stared back at him intimidatingly. "Why? Do you want to get hurt again?"
Patrick was frightened by her words and added, "Just don't mimic the way Florence calls me."
"Then I won't call you that," replied Amelia. Evidently, Patrick was trying to gain something from her.
Patrick tried to plead with her with a softer voice, "Just call me 'Patrick' once? Please... You can do that, right?"
"Why should I? Now I'm thinking about asking you to call me your sister," replied Amelia in disagreement.
"Are you going to say it or not?" asked Patrick as he glared at her ominously.
"Nope... Hmm!" In a flash, her lips were pressed on by Patrick's as soon as she finished her words.
Amelia explained, "Of course, I have to be the one who prepares the meal to show my sincerity when I invited Owen over for a meal, right? Anyway,
there's a kitchen in this club for me to prepare the meal."
"But, we also have a five-star chef here. Why do you have to do it yourself?" Patrick asked bitterly and reluctantly.
Why did he not get any benefits when he had come all the way to meet Amelia? Also, he was the one who begged Owen to let go of Sawyer.
Patrick was so dejected that he could burst into tears if Amelia did not cheer him up.
"Owen has been away from Northville for so long, he definitely misses home cooking. Although my cooking skills are not as good as the chefs here, at least I'm familiar with the popular dishes in Northville. I'm sure it will fit his taste. Trust me!" Amelia guaranteed.
Why did Mrs. Hopper not understand that her cooking skills were not the main point!
Patrick was frustrated deep down in his heart.
Then, Amelia continued, "Also, I want you to try my cooking and see if my skills are improving."
Patrick became excited immediately and replied, "Mrs. Hopper! I want to have some seafood!"
Amelia noticed the changes in his expression and could not help but laugh when he turned as happy as a child. "Okay, I got it."
Patrick then held her hand in a split second and said gravely, "It's not safe here. I'll go with you."
Owen and Patrick's men were here to guard the club. Could it be any safer than this?
Clearly, Patrick was unwilling to not have Amelia by his side.
