"Alright then." Having heard Sawyer's order, Sissi had no other choice but to speak to Abner in regret, "Dear, I’ll be back in a while and spend more time with you."
"But, I don't want to spend any seconds with you." Despite thinking so, Abner did not speak his mind out loud.
Abner was guarded when Sissi walked pass him. Keeping a close eye on Sissi, Abner was afraid that she was going to come close to him at any seconds.
It was until she was far away from him that he finally turned around and set his eyes on the man in front of him. Overwhelmed by curiosity, Abner mumbled, "Daddy, why is she... wearing so little clothes?"
Sawyer was ultimately taken aback by Abner's question. It took him a while before he stuttered, "She's my lover. That's why she doesn't need to cover as much when she's around me. This is a gesture that you feel comfortable to be intimate with the one you love."
Sawyer thought that it was the best explanation he could come out for Abner so far.
At the sight of Abner's puzzled look still,
Sawyer could not tell what he understood from his explanation. It was at this time Abner uttered gloomily, "But she's not... my lover."
Abner's words confounded Sawyer again. For a second, he did not know what was ongoing in Abner's mind.
At the sight of Sawyer's darkening expression, Abner could not help but lower his gaze sheepishly in an attempt to avoid making any eye contact with him. He murmured timidly, "So... I don't want to see her... wearing this little."
Sawyer startled again after hearing this. In the next second, he finally understood the meaning in Abner's words. In fact, Abner was trying to turn around and tell him that he disliked Sissi.
It was only then Sawyer hesitated for a moment before he finally reached out his hand to caress Abner's hair. He then said, "This won't happen again. However, you must get used of her presence as soon as possible. After all, she is your mother. It'd be better for both of you to get close with each other."
Ever since Amelia came, Sawyer learnt from her the reason why Abner was reluctant to be around with Sissi. The truth was he was afraid that Sawyer was going to love him lesser. After knowing this, Sawyer had since then changed his attitude towards Abner. Not only he was softer when talking to him, he no longer instructed him sternly.
Upon acknowledging Sawyer's words, Abner plucked up his courage to glance at Sawyer sheepishly. With his long lashes trembled as he blinked, a hint of excitement lingered in his voice when squeaked, "Can you touch my head... like this for a while more? I like to have you... do this, Daddy."
Sawyer was about to retract his hand when he heard Abner's words. Despite being overwhelmed by surprise, he could feel somewhere deep down in his heart was melting. Instead of turning him down, he stroked his hair a few more times before putting his hand down.
Abner could not help flushing in excitement. Had it be in the past, Sawyer would never touch him this way. In fact, he had mentally for the worst that he was going to get scolding from Sawyer when he made such request. That was why Sawyer's action had caught him by surprise. The truth was the trick that Amelia had taught him before indeed worked at this moment!
A simple touch from him had successfully rendered Abner's expression vivid. At the sight of this, Sawyer could not help smiling. Meanwhile, he also secretly blamed himself for his ignorance towards Abner in the past few years.
Throughout those years, Abner would
remind Sawyer of Sissi every time when he saw him. That was why he hardly participated in Abner's growth. He hated at the idea that the past memory was consuming him all the time. It was also because of such intense grudge that drove him crazy. He could not help but think of ruining the marriage between Sissi and Christian.
Therefore, he would try to avoid Abner at all cost even if he was well aware that Abner had been looking forward to spend time with him.
It was at this time that Abner mumbled again, "Daddy, it's... Saturday tomorrow. Can we... Um... Invite Aunt Amelia over? Or can I... go over to meet her?"
"Don't you want to spend more time with me?" Sissi's voice happened to linger in the air at this time. It was coupled with the sound of her footsteps approaching.
Having heard the commotion, Sawyer's gaze immediately fell onto Sissi.
All he could see was that Sissi had already changed into a smart casual wear. While there was nothing inappropriate of her attire at first appearance, Sawyer could not help but notice the slim fit design of her black blazer that caricatured her voluptuous body shape.
What is she capable of teaching me?" thought Abner.
The truth was Abner might not be a child with a smart mouth. However, that did not preclude him from being an intelligent kid. Perhaps it was because of Sawyer's moodiness that impelled him into becoming an observant one as he grew up. Hence, he could tell from Sissi’s eyes that she was someone with overflowingly aggressive emotions. She was nothing alike as compared to Amelia. Hence, he struggled to find the woman in front of him likeable.
Sissi had no idea at all what Abner had been thinking. Hence, she went ahead and explained, "I know that you have difficulties in expressing yourself to others. I'm also aware that I'm the biggest contributing reason that you become like this today. However, I'm pretty confident that I can be your panacea. If I can be your teacher from now onwards, I'll get to spend more time with you. I'm going to teach you on how to love and feel loved. You don't have to worry. Until then, I won't force you into calling me as your Mom. I'll wait until you can finally n accept me.
From Sawyer's perspective, Sissi's speech was indeed flawless and touching. After all, as a father, he had not been spending much time with Abner either ever since he was born.
Abner's eyes flickered with a hint of excitement. He had to admit that he was touched by her words. At the end of the day, Sissi was his biological mother. It was an undisputable fact that they shared the same blood.
He could learn to accept her provided that she stopped staring at him as if he was her prey. He could not help feeling terrified at her burning gaze.
It was exactly such terror that drove him into missing Amelia.
Unlike how he felt towards Sissi, he was attracted to Amelia who had always been calm and likeable. Sometimes he even thought that it would be such a blessing if he could have Amelia as his mother instead.
At Apex Construction Corporation.
In a blink of any eye it was already evening.
As Amelia cleaned up her office table, she swept a glance at the clock on the wall.
It was almost time to call it a day off. At the sight of this, she called Alice and informed her that she was going to Land of Fragrance tonight in order to take care of Patrick. She then subsequently closed the door of her office and left right after.
