Florence told Patrick about her recent distress dejectedly, "I try very hard to pretend nothing has ever happened in front of Mom every day, but it's difficult. Every time I listen to her as she blames everything on Amelia, I... I feel disgusted. The thing is, I know the truth, but I always keep quiet. I feel like I've become a disgusting hypocrite. Like Mom!"
Patrick looked away and replied indifferently, "You're hypocritical. You're here to pour out your troubles to me, but you said you came to visit me."
"Patrick!" Florence was once again purple with rage. "Can't you console me? I feel sad, contradictory..."
Patrick glanced at her and said calmly, "You don't have to show me your knowledge of vocabulary. I know your English grade has been poor since you were a child."
Florence could swear that the person before her was not her real brother!
She stood up from the chair and rebuked, "Forget it, I'll stop talking. I'm going to find Amelia!"
He looked at Florence's retreat with a complex expression, and a self-mockery smile flashed across his face. He himself did not know how to face Eve, so how could he advise Florence?
He wanted to know what to do about her too.
Outside the ward.
When Florence left the ward in a hurry, she crashed into a man who was walking towards her, his hands clutching his stomach.
"Hmm." The man stumbled a small step back when Florence hit him, covering his belly with discomfort.
"I'm... I'm so sorry!" Florence did not expect to run into someone, so she hurriedly reached out and said compassionately, "Sir, you don't look very well. Let me help you n
up.
Florence sounded a little timid, which was pleasant for the man to hear. The irritation of being hit turned into a delight as he thought he had run into a romantic encounter.
He raised his head and looked at her with a graceful smile. At first, he only wanted to make friends with her. But unexpectedly, when he saw her face, his smile froze, and he stopped caring about his stomach pain. Caught in a daze, he sputtered, "You?
Florence Hopper!"
Florence also recognized him at a glance.
"Wait! Hobart Smith?"
It turned out that Hobart had been having a tummyache ever since he returned from the UK. He went to the hospital for a medical check-up but did not expect to run into Florence here. To him, he could not get any unluckier than this!
After Hobart snapped back to his senses, he turned and left curtly.
He did not want to waste his time with a woman who had not a single gentle bone in her body!
But, that did not mean Florence would let him go even if he was set on getting away from her. In the next second, Florence caught up to him, and her voice became coquettish when she said, "You pervert. You've even followed Amelia to the hospital!"
Amelia who?
He could not understand what this crazy woman was on about!
Hobart gripped the medical record in his hand tightly and sped up his pace, ready to skip over this private consultation.
Florence was glad that she wore flatter shoes to the hospital. Otherwise, she would not have been able to catch up with Hobart's quick pace and long strides.
Florence glowered at him. "Quit the act. I know you're just jealous."
Ring.
Hobart looked to the side and saw that the elevator doors had opened. He could not be bothered to argue any longer and said, "Believe it or not, I still have things to attend to. Bye!"
Florence narrowed her eyes and followed him in when she saw Hobart's arrogant expression as he entered the elevator.
Hobart's hands that were hanging by his sides tightened into fists and loosened.
He tried so hard to resist the urge to push Florence out of the lift, he asked expressionlessly, "Why did you come in with me?"
Florence sneered. "I'm afraid that you won't give up on your evil intentions and will try to shoot a shot at Amelia after getting rid of n
me.
"I told you I... forget it. I'm not repeating myself! Here are my medical records. Take a look!" Hobart frowned and raised the medical records in his hand to Florence.
Florence waved it away and smiled contemptuously. "No, thanks. I can't understand doctors' handwriting. Besides, with your scheming, you can ask a doctor to give you a fake record in advance so you can use it as false proof when clever people like me see through your schtick."
Hobart's face twitched. "Gosh. It's a huge loss for the nation that you're not an actress!"
"Thank you. I think so too." Florence had suffered plenty from Patrick. So, she could finally resume her wittiness when facing Hobart.
