When Hobart heard Florence mentioned the name 'Milton Cook', his face clouded over. "It's not him. Stop asking."
Florence did not see his expression, so she did not notice that something was off with him. "Oh, it isn't him. Forget about it then. I don't care about him or anyone else if not for the fact that he's Amelia's good friend."
After Florence said that, she turned and started humming a song.
For some reason, Hobart felt that his stomach was hurting even more when listening to her melodic voice. He thought to himself that Florence was trying to throw him off. More importantly, she succeeded. How detestable!
On a second thought, Hobart felt asked Florence, "Um. Is Amelia still in contact with Milton?"
"How would I know? But, they're good friends. Surely they do keep in touch?" After Florence finished, she looked at him defensively. "You said you had no intentions on Amelia. Why are you asking about her relationship with other men then?"
Hobart choked on his words and covered up for himself, "You were the one who brought
up Milton. I was just continuing the topic." Florence nodded as she said, "Oh, I see. I might've thought too deep into this." Hobart could not contain his anger and asked, "Since Amelia and your brother are so lovey-dovey, why are you so anxious about them?"
"I'm not anxious, it's just that Amelia is exceptionally charming, and Patrick is... well, let's not talk about him." Florence's almost spilled out the fact that Patrick was in a car accident. Fortunately, she stopped before she could let on more. She then changed the topic and said, "Anyway, I have to keep an eye out for Amelia on behalf of Patrick, or scoundrels like you will swoop in on her."
Scoundrels like him?
What a joke!
As the eldest son of the Hobart family, he could have as many women as he wanted, so why would he chase after a strong-headed, married woman?
Hobart would never admit that he was indeed bitter about not being able to succeed in pursuing Amelia at this moment. She was a taint in his dating history!
However, Hobart had a skill, which was he knew how to 'forget'. But, his trick had flunked completely after meeting Florence!
Hobart was annoyed by Florence's continuous reminder of his failure, repeating how he had adored Amelia but could not secure her. He was so irked that he had the impulse to shut Florence's mouth up!
"This is strange. Aren't you, as young Mr. Hobart, surrounded by a lot of beautiful women all the time? Why is nobody accompanying you to the hospital when you're sick? Unless they don't actually like you, but your money..."
In an instant, Florence was slammed to the wall on her back by Hobart for rubbing salt on his wound!
Before she could react, Hobart swiftly held the back of her head in place and leaned forward to kiss her!
"Hmm!" Florence was struck dumb. She blinked her eyes and gazed at the handsome face in front of her in disbelief
with questions popping up in her heart.
Why did he kiss her?
Did he have feelings for her?
No, no, no, This was not the time to think that way. What she should be thinking about was that she was being taken advantage of!
With this thought in mind, Florence jerked her knee and pushed it upward.
Hobart turned to look at her and asked with a chuckle, "Miss Florence, you're in your twenties, right? So why are you so childish? Why do you think of complaining whenever you run into a small problem?"
"What small problem is this? That was my first kiss!" Florence blurted out in a fit of panic.
Instead of delight, Hobart showed an expression of imminent disaster. Hobart stared at her blankly. "That... that was your first kiss?"
Florence chewed her lower lip and nodded shyly.
After Hobart got her affirmation, he could not help but frown. "This is bad..."
D*mn!
Florence's eyes went ablaze with rage. "I haven't even complained yet, so why is this
'bad' for you?"
"Here's the thing..." Hobart switched into the tone of a TV anchor and explained to Florence, "When I was a child, a fortuneteller once told me that I should stay away from girls who haven't had their first kiss. Otherwise, I'll probably get injured. It's also because of this that I lead a lifestyle like what Picasso had."
After listening, Florence showed a look of contempt. "No one on earth can be more shameless than you. You've made up the lie to deceive me because you don't think I'm not worth your time. Don't worry! I won't pester you any longer! As long as you kneel and apologize to me, I'll pretend nothing happened."
"Hey, I'm telling the truth. Why don't you believe me?" Hobart shook his head as he stole glances at her. "I blame myself too. And I mustn't implicate Miss Hopper, so please stay away from me in case I do."
