"Sissi." Sawyer patted her back and said in a gentle voice, "Let go of me. I’ll go and have a look."
"No! She's been with you for the whole afternoon, and she’s still here to occupy your night time? Is she that dry?"
Sissi knew that she should not have said that. She had always been sensible and rational in front of Sawyer, because she knew that a faint alienation could evoke a man's desire instead. But, since she had behaved so childishly to win his favour, how would Sawyer react next?
Under Sissi's nervous gaze,
Sawyer unexpectedly put on a smile. "I'm happy to see that you care so much about me. Don't worry. I've only one woman in my eyes, and that's you."
When she heard his assurance, Sissi felt relieved.
She then loosened her hands and buttoned up a gap on his shirt, saying, "Go ahead. I'll take Abner to wash up."
"All right." After Sawyer responded, he made way for the door.
But in the next second, Abner, who had been ignored by the couple suddenly tugged on the corner of Sawyer's clothes.
Sawyer turned around and looked at Abner, who was only at the height of his waist, then asked faintly, "What's wrong?"
Abner replied slowly, "Dad, I want to... go with you to see Amelia."
"No, Abner." It was Sissi who spoke. She then induced him softly, "It's time for bed."
"No, I'm not sleepy yet."
"Don't you want to listen to
Mommy's bedtime story?" Sissi then deliberately showed a sad expression on her face.
Compared to the bedtime story, there was something Abner was more desired. "I want to... tell Amelia goodnight."
When Sissi heard how Aber kept calling Amelia's name, she got angry. "Abner, if you don't behave, Mommy will be angry! Come to Mommy now. Mommy will wash you up and get you ready for bed!"
As Sissi reached over, Abner reflexively shrunk himself to Sawyer's side. His eyes were no longer dull, but filled with fear.
Sawyer could not bear looking at Abner's pitiful expression so he said, "Sissi, just let him go with me."
For some reason, Sawyer's heart softened after having more contact with Abner. It
might be the paternal love at work.
When Sissi heard him, her hand stopped awkwardly in the air while her facial features stretched tautly. "Well, whatever you say then. I'm tired, so I'll go wash up first."
After that, Sissi looked down, turned and stepped into the bathroom. Then, she slammed the door with rage.
Sawyer pursed his lips and felt a chill, but he did not say a word. He held Abner's wrist and walked in the other direction.
Amelia had been waiting outside the door for quite a while. Just as she thought Sawyer was determined to keep the door shut, she heard a click. The door opened.
"Ms. Amelia, what's the matter?"
Amelia had wanted to reason with Sawyer while she was fuming, but she froze when she saw the little one behind him. Amelia did not sound as fierce as expected when she said, "Sawyer, I want to take a bath."
Sawyer replied, "Ms. Amelia, please feel free to use any of the guest room in the villa."
Amelia replied, "But, I don't have clothes to change into."
Sawyer thought about it and replied, "If you don't mind, you can wear the maid's clothes for the time being."
Amelia looked away. She entered a random guest room then locked the door after closing it.
"Mr. Quartley..." The man in black who was locked outside the door looked towards
Sawyer.
"Just guard at the door." Sawyer said.
"Yes sir!"
Sawyer then turned to Abner and said, "You've seen Amelia and said goodnight to her. Can we go back to our room now?"
But, Abner looked up at Sawyer to meet his eyes and questioned in confusion, "Dad, isn't Amelia... our guest? Why did you... order the guards to watch over her?"
Sawyer's eyes slightly darkened. "She's a guest, indeed. That's why Daddy has to protect her safety."
"But..." Abner still felt that something was wrong.
As Abner watched Abner's thoughtful face, he said in an opposing manner, "If you think that's inappropriate, then Daddy will send her away now. But, I can't guarantee when you'll see her again." "No! Daddy! Let Amelia... stay!" Abner exclaimed in a panic, afraid that Sawyer would make Amelia leave in the next second.
Satisfied, Sawyer bowed and smoothed Abner's head, "All right, but you have to be obedient. Now, let's go back to the room and then persuade Mommy not to overthink okay?"
To prevent Amelia from being sent away overnight, Abner agreed. Abner could feel that Sissi disliked Amelia. So, if Sissi spoke ill of Amelia in front of his Daddy, would Amelia be sent back during the night?
Abner would not have minded if it was any other times. But, Abner could tell from Amelia's tone that she was saying goodbye to him, which meant that he would not know when he could see her again once she had left!
Therefore, Abner could not have Amelia be sent away that night. Not only that, he must do something for Amelia before she left so that she could remember him. That way, she would perhaps get convinced and promise to visit him again!
