Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1522

"A bracelet?" Amelia recalled before she exclaimed, "Oh! I remember! You used to wear a bracelet with a lucky charm on your left hand. That was the one he gifted to you, am I right?"

Jessica was surprised when Amelia answered. "Yea, that was the one. I didn't expect you to remember it."

“I once saw the same bracelet on Cartier's official website, which was why it left an impression on me. If I wasn't mistaken, that bracelet alone cost at least ten to twenty thousand dollars." The significant time lapse caused Amelia to be uncertain of the price she saw on the website.

"What?! Ten to twenty thousand dollars? Why didn't you tell me earlier!" Jessica hollered. The truth was she had thrown the bracelet away a long time ago. Had she known of its price, she would never have done so.

Amelia replied innocently, "I wanted to tell you too. But you told us you bought it from Amazon, so I thought that it was a replica and dared not to bring it up to you."

It was only then Jessica recalled that she did tell that she bought it online. She could not help blaming herself for her stupidity, "How can I be so stupid? No wonder I'm still a failure now!"

Before Jessica freaked out, Amelia hurriedly changed the subject, "Um... Usually, a bracelet means a meaningful gift. Was he trying to confess his feelings for you through it?" "I thought of that too, which was why I accepted the gift without hesitation. By putting it on, I wished he knew to the hint that I was willing to be bound to him. Two months after, the second summer break arrived.

Although I returned to Northville, my heart was at the university. Deep down, I felt like he would look for me. But I was no longer in that city, which made me wonder if he could still find me. The truth soon revealed that he could. Guess what? He showed up downstairs when I was at my gramps' place."

Amelia's heart sank alarmingly. "That's creepy! He knew everything about you, yet you didn't even know his name. That's dangerous! If anything were to happen, how could you escape from him?"

Jessica replied gloomily, "But back then... I didn't want to escape from him."

Amelia was choked by what she heard.

Jessica then said faintly, "When moths draw close to the flame, do you think they consider the consequences and danger of their action? I highly doubt it. It was the same for me. Frankly speaking, I was elated to know that he was still able to find me no matter where I was. This alone showed that he was willing to put in the minimum effort to find me."

What a fool!

Amelia regretted knowing how foolish Jessica was back then. As a result, she could not help but think of the guy at his worst. "So, what was his reason this time? Don't you tell me that he was there to tell you that his ex- girlfriend was pregnant with another man's baby?"

"Pfft!" Jessica burst out laughing. "No, he came to invite me into moving in with him."

At that, Amelia's eyes widened in shock. "Hold on! What did you just say? He wanted you to move in with him?"

Jessica nodded to confirm that Amelia did not mishear her. "He told me he was fed up being alone. Other than his ex-girlfriend, I was the only woman that he felt comfortable being with, which was why he invited me to move in with him."

There was an alarm blaring in Amelia's head, who almost knew what would happen next. "Don't you tell me that you agreed."

The corner of Jessica's lips curled upwards, but that smile did not reach her eyes. "That's right. I agreed. After all, I had lost all my hope in my family. Gramps was the only reason that I still returned to Northville. And when someone I liked put such tempting offer on the table, how on earth could I refuse it?"

Amelia interrupted exasperatedly, "But he had mistreated you before! He isn't worthy of your love!"

After a moment of silence, Jessica responded, "It takes two to tango. He did hurt me, but that stemmed from a misunderstanding. He compensated me afterwards, didn't he? In that case, I couldn't see why I shouldn't forgive him and follow my heart."

Amelia's darkened expression was sufficient to illustrate her strong disapproval.

At the sight of this, Jessica hurriedly added, "If you're to get this mad now, you're going to have a heart attack when I finish the story. Take a sip of water and cool down."

Amelia reached out to the cup of flowery tea for the first time since it was served. Naturally, the tea had gotten cold.

"Is it cold? I'll ask someone to make you another one. It won't take you long, I promise." At the sight of this, Jessica waved a staff over and requested him to replace the tea.

The staff took the cup away before he left.

Around three minutes later, a cup of hot flowering tea was brought to the table. Amelia's stuffy chest was more or less soothed after she took a sip.

She put down the cup and looked at Jessica with determination as if she was prepared for the worst. "Go ahead! I'm ready for anything!"

At the sight of Amelia bottling up her anger, Jessica smiled as she carried on, "I once thought that moving in with him would expose his shortcomings. In that case, I would stop fantasizing about him.

But I was wrong. He was fastidious and a perfectionist. He did his best in everything he did. For instance, I found it unbelievable that his cooking skills were so refined that I felt ashamed for not being able to cook better.

Thanks to him, every corner of the apartment was always spick- and- span. That was the time I realized that there was no chance for me to impress him on household matters."

Amelia remained indifferent even after Jessica tried to portray him as talented and perfect. Deep down, Amelia could not help but doubt if Jessica was so blinded by her admiration that she refused to acknowledge his shortcomings.

Jessica admitted, "Yes, but my problem was solved in no time. He paid for my fees again. What was more, he placed the card that I returned to him next to my pillow with a note."

Amelia thought, "A note? Did he go leave again?"

"He left a note saying that he had to go back as his school was starting. He insisted that he wouldn't take the card back as it was meant for me. At last, he said that he would return to the apartment during winter break again for Christmas."

Amelia thought for a moment before she inferred, "What he meant in his last statement was that you could come over during winter break and continue living with him?"

Jessica gave her a tiny nod. "I thought so too."

Amelia muttered, "Why was he disappearing left and right all the time! By the way, since both of you lived together for two months, did you find out his name? Where he was from? Where did he study?"

The glimpse of light in Jessica dimmed as she sighed, "I had no idea. No matter how hard I tried to get him into telling me, he wouldn't reveal the slightest information to me."

Amelia snorted, "He could tell you something as personal as getting dumped by his ex- girlfriend but not his name?"

Jessica sighed again, "Maybe he just wanted to play safe. He didn't want me to cling to him in future."

Amelia sneered, "At the end of the day, he wasn't committed enough to open up himself to you! Trash!"

Jessica burst out laughing, "Take it easy. Let the past be the past."

"Well, I'm not mad. It's just that you deserve so much better. If I were to bump into that b*stard one day, I'm going to slap him in the face!" Despite saying that she was not mad, Amelia could feel her anger boiling in her vein.

Jessica glanced at Amelia deeply before she continued with her story calmly, "During my third year of study, I kept the habit of sending him text messages every day. I would share with him trivial updates of my life and studies.

Most of the time, he did not reply to my messages, or if he did, the replies were like 'Oh' and 'I see'. Despite so, I never thought of giving up. Even if he was stone-hearted, I was going to break down his wall and warm him up with my persistence!

Time flew. In the blink of an eye, winter break started again. I took the earliest train back to Northville and returned to the apartment before he did.

Seeing that the place was covered with a thick film of dust, I decided to clean up before he arrived. I triumphed at the thought that at last, I got the chance to prove myself to him."
