More than three hundred livestock and five hundred orchard trees for free?
Amelia choked from great shock. The business with cattle, sheep, and fruit trees could go on for a long time as the cattle would give birth to calves while orchards would blossom and bear fruits annually. If they could manage the business well, they could be set for life.
Was the Kaito family currently facing such considerable difficulties that they wanted to sell the farm as soon as possible with the 'buy one free two' method?
On the way back to their homestay, Amelia could not help asking Patrick about the situation of the farm. As a result, he replied, "It's because Kaito was too dependent on the government in the early stages."
"What do you mean?"
"Every year, the local government would allocate funds to support the development of Kaito's farm. They would even take the initiative to contact sales channels for him and arrange staff to guide him. As time went on, the Kaito family's life turned easier, and he was too lazy to use his brain to operate the farm. Later on, the local government found a more promising farm, so they abandoned Kaito's. Think about it. What will happen to the farmer when he had lost his ambitions, knowledge, and skills?"
"I see." Amelia nodded and asked curiously, "Are you going to buy his farm?"
"Amy, would you consider buying it?" Patrick asked.
Amelia said, "I will. After all, the conditions Mr. Kaito offered are generous. I can use the livestock and fruit trees to achieve lucrative benefits."
"It just sounds like it's a lucrative business." Patrick shook his head.
"Why?"
"Because we don't intend to run a farm." Seeing that Amelia was still confused, Patrick continued to explain, "Indeed, those chickens, ducks, cattle, sheep, and orchards can reproduce generations after generations, but Roxxon's purpose here is to set up a branch, not to operate a farm. Therefore, I'll sell everything that Kaito had mentioned to the slaughterhouse or the market. That is to say, your idea of a 'lucrative business' won't realise, because I'll sell those chickens to the market before they can hatch the eggs. Do you get it
now?"
Amelia understood and said, "So in Kaito's view, these significant gifts that may gain huge merits are nothing but a one-time benefit for you because of the difference in industries."
"That's right." Patrick nodded.
Amelia felt ashamed and added, "I'm always inferior to you in this aspect."
Patrick looked at her with pride and replied, "If not, how can I be your man?"
Ha! Amelia gave Patrick an inch and he had taken a mile!
"Patrick, Amelia." Just then, Nora pointed a finger to the front. With a surprised expression, she said to Patrick and Amelia, "Quick, look over there..."
Patrick and Amelia raised their gazes and found several fireflies dancing in the sky ahead.
At first, there were only a few of them, but later on, more and more of their kind flew out from the bushes, gathering to form a long glowing green river, seemingly endless.
The fireflies lit up before Amelia's eyes, who marvelled at this dreamlike scene that she exclaimed softly, "How beautiful!"
"They're just fireflies." Compared to the two amazed women, Patrick was calm. Evidently, he was not interested in some bugs.
"Oh right! Let's take a picture!" While Amelia looked for her phone, Nora waved a camera at them. "Why don't I take a picture for you two?"
Amelia nodded. "Thank you, Nora."
Nora continued, "I think when you two get married, you can take a series of wedding pictures like this!"
Amelia did not expect Nora to mention this, and her face flushed in an instant. "Nora!"
"Don't be shy. Isn't it something that will happen sooner or later? Right, Patrick?" Nora winked at Patrick.
"Of course." Patrick looked at Amelia beside him lovingly and admitted that he wanted to remarry Amelia.
Seeing how Amelia's face was as red as a tomato, Nora could not help but laugh and add, "Hurry up and pose! Or the fireflies will disperse soon."
Patrick then held Amelia's waist and turned her to face him, flashing her a comforting smile. "Amy, say 'cheese'."
Amelia smiled reflexively. The fluttering fireflies made her looked like an elf in the forest, looking devilishly beautiful.
Patrick was stunned by Amelia's beauty for a moment, then bent down slowly to kiss her between her eyebrows.
Click!
Nora, who had captured this scene with her camera, called out, "Perfect!"
Then, Patrick kissed Amelia's eyes, nose, cheeks, and finally, lips. He had pecked her at first, but he then deepened the kiss.
"Are you two done yet?" Nora's face flushed as she watched the couple from the side. They were doing that for so long that Nora could have made a video out of it! They were taking forever!
Afterwards, Amelia hugged Nora and complained, "Nora, I regret taking a picture with him! Woo..."
Ashley interrupted him curtly, "Keep making that up! Andrew, you're the champion of the junior equestrian category. Don't talk to me about being 'too young to ride a pony'!"
"Do you think I haven't seen your medal? You only wanted to build a polite and fake righteous image in front of Mommy and the rest yesterday, didn't you? Now, Mommy's downstairs, and Uncle Patrick and Aunt Amelia aren't with us here. Can you stop the act now?"
Building a polite image.
A fake righteous image.
Andrew tried to block the words out. "Ashley, if you still remember that I won the championship of junior equestrian, why did you say we 'have never ridden a horse' yesterday?"
"Idiot!" Ashley glanced at him and explained, "It was to flatter Akira and Hinata! It's just the same as how you always tell your classmates you'll only get a passing mark when you know full well you'll get a perfect score! It's because we should be modest!"
"Besides, didn't you see that Akira and Hinata looked as if they wanted to teach us? If I told them you were a champion, wouldn't that disappoint them? Andrew, you might lose your friends if you keep this up."
Listening to her, Andrew realized that she did use Japanese when she made this statement, even though it sounded a little awkward.
Ashley was right. When it came to studying, Andrew was the best of the geniuses. But in terms of socializing, Andrew was nowhere near as good as Ashley.
As if what she said was not profound enough, Ashley continued after catching a breath, "I didn't expect you to be so dense! Not only did you not understand my intention, but you kept stopping me. You weren't even provoked when I brought up Daddy. You even used Mommy to pressure me, which made me what to give you a kick in the butt yesterday."
Andrew rubbed his nose awkwardly. Fortunately, he had played along with Ashley's words about how they had never ridden a horse yesterday. Otherwise, she might have fallen from the horse like the precious time when they were at the stable. That was why Andrew did not allow Ashley to ride the pony.
Seeing that Andrew had lost his will getting criticized, Ashley became gentler. She said to him ingratiatingly, "Andrew, let me ride the pony. I promise I won't make trouble for you!"
Andrew shook his head immediately. "No! Did you forget that you almost fell from the horse the last time you were at the stable? If Uncle Patrick hadn't arrived in time, your body would have shattered!"
A puzzled look appeared on Ashley's face. "Andrew, what are you talking about? When did I ever ride a horse?"
Andrew stared at her incredulously. "No way. Have you actually forgotten? Think about it carefully!"
Ashley pondered, "I've never ridden a horse! Andrew, you must have remembered wrongly."
Andrew opened his mouth but could not speak a word because he just remembered Ashley's cheeky tricks.
For instance, if she did not do her homework, she would hide the book away. Then, no matter how the teacher pressed, she would put on an act and said she had 'forgotten' to bring it. This way, the teacher would not punish her.
